My Embarassing Spelling mistakes on My Lot- Do you make errors?

It's downright embarassing sometimes. I can spell, quite well in fact. But my word processing skills on a keyboard are not good. As I rush when I write things, & often don't look at what I am typing, I make mistakes. Usually I try to check for these mistakes straight after, but even then in my haste, I don't check the subject. I have made plenty of silly mistakes with spelling here. Last week I started a discussion on my daughter winning the year level Championship medal. It was not until sometime later that I discovered that I had spelt championship incorrectly in the title (subject). Iwas really annoyed with myself for being so careless. Do you make spelling mistakes on My Lot? What is the silliest or most embarassing mistake you have made?

Error? Me, no I am PEEERRRRfect! lol Just kidding. In fact I make alot. More than I'd care to admit. I get so engrossed in answering a discussion, I sometimes don't see until after I have posted. So you aren't alone! In my haste I sometimes have left letters out of words completely. Just little mylot oops. I wish they would have one of the improvements be that we could edit our posts. Instead the mistakes are hanging in Cyberspace.

I try to do my best to catch my mistakes. I never post a discussion or response without re-reading the entire thing first. Still, sometimes I find that I did not spell something correctly. Maybe I did spell it right, but I used the wrong word in my haste, you know what I mean? It doesn't bother me too much because my usual posts are very coherent. It only bothers me when one person catches on a mistake they think is funny, then they comment on it. Which is fine. But then someone else sees that comment, and THEY comment on the mistake as well. That is just plain old annoying. I haven't done this before, but the most common spelling mistake I see on mylot is when people spell 'loose' instead of 'lose.' For some reason people get that mixed up often.

Other common "mistakes" are the ones us Aussies & English make. We often use the traditional Queens english, & not the American version. As My Lot is an American site, I sometimes think I should be following US conventions for spelling.

I enjoy hearing the differences in the English that Americans and Brits/Australians use. I used to read so many books from Australian authors, that it doesn't seem odd to me.

Picture of me at the computer--some days! - LOL. I guess it is good that I can laugh at myself! Typos? I dunno how they happened. Post gremlins--I guess!
Well join the club! I can spell really well too. But put a keyboard in front of me, and I become the 'typo queen'. Don't know what it is, maybe rushing, maybe thinking about the subject at hand, and not my spelling- I dunno. But don't be embarrassed, I think most of us can relate. I get really made at myself too. Especially when the error is in the title! AND after I have used spell check too!

In my case, I think it is because keyboard skills were not taught when I was at school, so I never really caught onto that. Am self taught. I do get the red underlined thing for mistakes, but it doesn't work for the title.

personally i can't stand for there to be spelling errors in my own writing. i will go over the post carefully before i post it to make sure there aren't any errors. luckily for me, spelling errors just seem to pop out at me. but i don't really care if other people have them. i don't think this site is a spelling test. just a word of caution about the spell check-it's only gonna tell you if the word is spelled wrong, not necessarily if it's the wrong word-for example, in your own post, liasonfan, you said "i get really 'made' at myself", spell check wouldn't catch that you meant "mad" because "made" is spelled correctly. you're probably better off to do a manual spell check. another tip i have for that is to check your spelling from the bottom up, so that you are reading individual words, and not actual sentences, which might cause you to not notice the words themselves, but as part of the whole sentence...happy posting!!

Yes, yes and yes and I have spell check but often I forget to use it. Like you my spelling (both British and American, LOL) is pretty good but I tend to be in a hurry which results in careless mistakes.

I generally use the Queens English, & I sometimes think I should be using American version as My Lot is an American site. It is hard to change from the old use of English. I am making my daughter only use traditonal English, even though she is exposed to far more American English than what I would have been at her age. She wants to study English at Oxford or Cambridge!

I know that i've made my share of spelling mistakes here on Mylot. I usually don't notice them until it's too late. It usually happens when I don't cut my nails shorter and my nails hit keys other than the ones I need to hit. Hmmm.wouldn't it be nice to have a spell check here?~D

I feel very bad about it.The mistakes tend to be plenty especially when something strikes you that you think as best point. You hit the key board in an enthusiasm making a flurry of mistakes.I don't know how many mistakes I made in this response because I find it very interesting.

I dont use the edit button, as it is time consuming. But Firefox have this red underlined function, that shows mistakes. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work for titles.

When I was using internet explorer I used to have lots of spelling errors here on mylot. But when I started using Mozilla, they were eliminated because firefox checks the spelling as you type. However I still make mistakes with grammar and stuff like that. I used to feel horrible but now I don't care so much about them because I see a lot doing mistakes and it doesn't bother me. So I just think that when I make mistakes my mylot friends will understand since we can't edit our post anymore once we hit the "post response" button.

Yea, that's right. When you write your title of a Blog for example, that little box seems to turn off spell checker.

Alright, I just caught another of your typos in this very discussion. You said "Iwas" instead of "I was" hehe. :P But don't fret over it Jenny. We all make mistakes. I have made spelling and grammar mistakes unknowingly too. And I am sure I do not even know some of those times.:P

It is good to see you back. I saw some discussions from you yesterday, but was at swimming training for hours, so didn't get to reply to any. The mistake of mine you pointed out is a common one of mine, as I dont check slowly & carefully!

Ohmigosh, yes I make silly spelling mistakes here. I think my thoughts get ahead of my typing which causes it to happen. Then an additional problem I have is when I glance back over it, my mind fills in what I meant to type without seeing the mistake. I think it is most embarrassing for me when I make the mistake in the subject line.

Don't sweat it too much Jenn... we all make mistakes, whether they be typos or genuine spelling errors. If you find them really embarassing, just proof read your post before submitting. But if people make snarky comments about it then perhaps they are too judgemental.

hi jenny, "to err is humane", however if you feel that it was carelessness on your part, you could be extra cautious the next time. to be very frank i too must have misspelled or more appropriately typed in a wrong word, but i understand that i mostly committ such mistakes when i am really tired after a long day work. so sometimes i realise it the moment i committ that misatake.

Yes i do make a lot of errors here in mylot, specially if your typing too fast or you're making grammatical errors.. but one thing i love about the site is they have an auto corrector so you know where and when you make wrong spellings

My word processing skills are quite good, i can type fast and not make a lot of mistakes, but when i do, i normally go back and check them. I am not embarassed if i make them on here, everyone makes a mistake or two every now and then. as long as its not a really bad one like everyword is unreadable, then its ok =] Chris

My typing speed is also not so fast and i always make some mistakes while typing as i did in your post, but i watch them carefully. and try to rectify all my major mistakes. And its not all about embrassment my dear, people always learn from mistakes, so to keep learning you must have to do some mistakes also...lol keep myloting and posting good discussions!!!

English is my second language, so i often make mistakes, but i know what you mean. Even in my own language i make mistakes, because i think faster then my processing skills are on the keyboard. If i make a mistake on mylot it can have two reasons: 1. Bad english 2. I rushed it again. LOL
