My dad just gave me a computer (used) and every twenty minutes or so the internet will act like it's taking forever to get to the next page. I'll wait and wait and the next page never pops up. So I'll try to restart the computer or hit control alt del and nothing happens. I can click on the start buttona nd then click on the restart or shut down buton and then nothing happens. Or I'll close out of the internet page and then click on the internet symble on my desk to and it will show the hour glass but then nothing. I end up having to manually restart my computer, wich I'm guessing can;t be too good for it. I asked my dad and he told me all I had to do was go to this program on my computer called Ccleaner and it would take care of the problem .I did that and it didn't help. I know it worked because it deleted my history and saved passwords on yahoo. Can anyone help me?

If it is a windows xp try system restore and restore it to a date where you werent having problems. You could have it reformatted or be careful and go to your hard drive and take things out you are not using. Get avg on it it is all free and let it scan your computer for viruses because if you have a virus that could be your whole problem.

Hmm.. are you opening way too many applications or browser tabs at the same time? Your computer might have limited resources like RAM. :( Have you tried running virus and spyware checks? They might be the cause...

Is it only the internet or other activities also.Go to add/remove programs section and try to remove unwanted programs from the system.Try to remove files from the system that you think are of no use.see that the virtual memory setting is set to automatic. There might be some unknown connections to the internet without your knowledge that slow down your internet.try using a port manager.

reformat your PC to make it all clean and if you're not sure what to erase. anyway, your dad just gave it to you right so you've got no important files there yet (if ever) be sure to install anti-virus before connecting your PC to the net. reformatting doesn't COMPLETELY help your PC if it has low specifications but this next step might help a little. if still having the same speed, what type of internet connection you're having? wireless or wired? using a router? make sure the network is secured. having lots of neighborhood in your network would surely slow your speed.

Maybe the virus or other things, you'd better restart the computer or format the disk system in ,then Re-install the systerm .Finally, please restore the system and put it in other disks without system like Mobile Hard disk ,CD-ROM disk etc. Then,if you got something wrong with the computer ,you can use it to go back to the good condition. That is all my methods to it.Maybe it works.

I think your computer has been infected the virus. the primary thing you should do is shuting off the power, sounds more brutal,ah?but since you can't turn off the PC,this is the unique method to solve this problem. secondly, you'd disassemble the pc and take the harddisk out of them. then you'd look for another well-worked pc with the strong anviturs software updateing the newest pack. well, the next step is pivotal. make sure your harddisk connected the well-liking pc. turn on the well-liking PC power and start-up the anviturs software to scan the harddisk. so,is it very easy?good luck.
