Ageing

Okay, I'm 42 and I already started feeling the effects of the whole, "getting old" thing. So for all of you my age and older, what can I expect to feel like in another 5,10,15,20+ years? I consider myself to be fairly healthy, besides the smoking & drinking part (haha). Sometimes I feel like I need to roll out of bed, instead of the normal way. If I bend over, even for short periods of time, I can't hardly stand up staight, for a bit. More achey, more tired, etc..... Is it just me, or is this the way alot of you feel after you turn 40?!

Hi marilynlynn! Hey I am mmmmmuch older than you, lady! I am 55 years gone and I actually don't have too many complaints. Yeah, though somedays it IS a little rough getting started. I used to be the kind of girl who would and could BOUND out of bed every day. You know, just couldn't wait to see what kind of mischief I could get into on that day. Well, these days, it just takes a bit more concentration to get out of the rack, you know? I remember turning 42 very well. I was still really kickin' it at that time. Geeze marilynlynn, is that a recent pic of you? If it is, hon you sure have outsmarted the clock!!!! But anyway, I really believe that ATTITUDE is the ruler of out days. If we keep a good and positive attitude about our lives, then we can still have that kick butt sort of day. But like a friend of mine has said so many times, "When we rest, we rust". That is how I think too. So it is just so nice to be able to keep it moving. Don't be worrying on about the aches and pains. Just keep on keepin' on, okay? And I will too. Take care, sister. Peace kitkatgal

Oh, thanks Kitkat, You are so sweet, I sure wish I could meet you in person one day. I'm still kickin, but just a wee-bit stiffer, then before the age of 40! I'll never forget it, as soon as I turned 40, I swear I could feel it coming on. I changed my pic, and no, that's not what I look like now. Well, maybe on somedays. That picture I had, was about 10 years ago.....Yah, I wish. Thanks to you good people, I have a better attitude now. I for sure don't want to rust, so I gotta keep er movin. Hey, don't you need a recent pic-of-yourself? Come on, let us see your beautiful face! Thanks for cheering me up! :o) Marilyn I can't believe how much all of you effect me, and it's always in a positive way.

ERMMM! Uh,I have to get my daughter to take a pic of me with her digital. Geeze, I hadn't realized how far behind the times I am! Eeeee-yah! The pic that I have up was taken about 10 years ago with a Kodak 110 camera. Remember those? I believe it was a Cabbage Patch camera at that! I asked the kid to take a new pic and she very nicely told me that I look exactly the same, only now I have more character. Hmmmm, weeeee!!!! Take care, marilynlynn! ~hugs~ kitkatgal

A lot of people report this sort of thing, but it is not something I have experience. I do have one good friend, though who began to feel this way in his early 890's and I recommended that he start drinking an ounce of wheat grass juice each day. I used to grow my own, but now import it already frozen in serving sized cubes from farm up in Canada.

I've never even heard of wheat grass juice, care to explain, just a lil'-bit. I can't go to Canada, so where else would I be able to get some? Thanks for your ideas! Have a good day Drannhh...... :O)

Growing one's own is pretty labor intensive, so when we are near a Whole Food store we buy the frozen packets and when we are not, we have it shipped from this company: http://www.dynamicgreens.com/ If there is a Jamba Juice near you, they grow it in flats and sell it fresh in 1 or 2 ounce shots. Here is one of many pages explaining why people drink it: http://www.wheatgrasskits.com/40pointsofwheatgrass.htm As you can see from these photos, it is basically grass: http://www.eatsprouts.com/pic-wheatgr.html

personnaly,I am 61 and feel like I did when I was 30,but with the aches and pains of age, yes, the body will slow down on you,but so long as you think young, unless you have medical problems, age does not mean much.I am now semi-retired,but I love my business so much,I have opened a shop in a flea market just to keep myself going, but when I feel like not going in to work,it is fine, then I can just take a short teip and come backrefreshed,I did stop smaking and drinking, and have more money to spend(by a whole bunch) I can take more trips.lol have a great day.

I'm turning the big 40 in September, and have to say that already my joints and muscles are complaining quite a lot already, especially in the morning. As my darling wife is 11 years younger than I am, I have been going with the saying that 'you're only as old as the person you're feeling!' Doesn't work very well, lol, as most times I feel a lot older!!

Thanks, I was actually looking forward to 40, after hearing that life begins at 40. Birthday morning, I was expecting that I'd leap out of bed full of vitality, ready for the next 40 years...Oh well, I'm kinda use to stumbling and grumbling around first thing in the morning, so why change now?! Good luck with your aging bod too!

Hi marilynlynn, At 42 you should not be thinking about getting old. You have barely entered middle age, which people place somewhere between 35 and 50, depending on who you talk to. I am a healthy 68 year old, who would still love to be working, but jobs for seniors aren't available where I live. Stay active, eat healthy, and you should be in good shape for a lot of years yet. Blessings.

Brain growth continues until age 50. This contradicts the current view that such maturation ends before 20 and may shed light on brain ailments such as Alzheimer's disease and schizophrenia.

Well... you should not feel like that at 40. It seem to me that you need to be more active physically. I also smoke and drink... and I am 56. I don't have the energy than I used to have at 40... but I have only lost 25 per cent of it. Turning 40 was really hard for me... not from a physical point of view... but from a mental point of view. It took me a couple of years to accept that I was not a young man anymore. The worse part for me in the last 15 years was to watch my hair getting grey and my face looking older with each year passing. But as far as the rest is concern... everything still works. lol When I reached 50... I simply accepted it. But I must say that every year... I do not enjoy getting a year older. And gees!.. those years are flying by.

I'm only 36 now and I feel that old feeling now, back ache normally. I can't help myself thinking 10 yrs., 20 years from now how hurting is it. I hate to think of it especially when I suffer from rheumatism I saw my father it's very difficult sometimes he can't even walk because of it.

Awwwwww, I'm sorry to hear that, but I think I know the feeling. Well, I figured out that we have to have a good positive attitude, and just go with the flow. No matter what comes our way, we should deal with it in a good way, that's what I'm gonna do. Good luck to you honey, hope your back feels better real soon, I'll pray for you!, and myself! :o)

You shouldn't have that kind of thinking for yourself and thats not healthy.. Dont think too much about your age think what are you up to for tomorrow as the world never grows old..the heart will always be a heart..if you do stress about it you will have wrinkles so relax.

When I was in my early fifties, I stopped going to a gym, and after a year or so I was overweight, felt sluggish, and had pains in my knees. I went back to the gym and now at age 58 I go to the gym five or six times a week. My weight is under control, I feel good, and I have no aches or pains at all.

In my work as a life coach I see clients who are creaky and out of shape at twenty...and fit, lean, active people in their 60,'s, 70's and some into their 80's. To me the state of the body at any age has more to do with attitude, lifestyle, nutrition than the number of times we've been around the sun. Whatever we put into our body either builds cellular strength or destroys it. In my case I am in far better shape now than I ever was in my twenties...and I intend to keep on keeping on and be hiking into my nineties. Pacing, stretching, nourishing foods...all provides wonderful building blocks for the system. Also I do not believe in stereotypical thinking about age. In an article I wrote on healthy aging I asked the readers to consider to re-frame things. How about affirming that they are fabulous at forty, phenomenal at fifty, sensational and sixty, sensual and sexy at seventy...exceptional at eighty? I think you get the idea! I constantly remind clients struggling with aging that it is never about age...but attitude. Also growing 'old' is mandatory...growing up is an option. When I turned forty I felt better than I did when I was twenty. In my youth I was struggling with the compulsive coping patterns of two eating disorders. I was unhealthy with low self esteem and not much of a life. The longer I live the happier and healthier I become. Life is about choices...we make one choice that leads to an outcome. If the outcome is not where we want to be...then all we have to do is choose something different. When we change our beliefs usually the outer circumstances begin to change as well. At least that is my perspective...and it works for me! Raia

Wow, I really liked what you said. Okay, now I'm already starting to think I'm fabulous. :o) I know that life is about choices, and I consider myself to be pretty smart about things, I guess that sometimes it helps to know what other people think and how they also feel about this kind of stuff. I'm glad that you are happy and healthy, I'm gonna be too. Thanks my friend, for your thoughts and knowledge. :o)

You are noticing the early signs of age. First thing you should do is give up smoking. Not only is it bad for health, it causes wrinkles and makes you look older. When you reach your 50s there will be a great change, and then you get to the other side and you find life is better than ever. Really. Don't worry. Stay healthy.
