Green Bay Quarterback Brett Favre announced today he will retire from professional football. He has won 3 Most Valuable Player Awards, been an all-pro numerous times and has been a Super Bowl champion. The last few years of his career, on the other hand, were mired with inconsistent play and the inability to win the big one. He has not performed up to par since winning the Super Bowl in 1998. Is he really the greatest in NFL history? Or is he overrated? What's your opinion?

I really don't watch football much anymore, since getting into NASCAR, but Bret Favre was always my favorite quarterback. Now whether he is the greatest in NFL history, I think it's just a matter of personal opinion. He will always be my favorite.

LOL....all my female friends say that he's their favorite! I think the "hunk" factor and the fact that he is such a good husband to Deana might have something to do with it.

My opinion is that he is overrated. The press has made him the darling of football coverage and although he has had some good years, he has also had some bad years. The best example would be last year when he took the Green Bay Packers to the SuperBowl and failed miserably at that stage of his career. This is probably why he chose to retire at that point.

Well, that was the achilles heel of his career. Late in his career, Favre seemed to throw more passes to the opponents' defensive backs than his own receivers. Unfortunately, the last play of his career was an interception he threw in overtime during the NFC Championship game which sent the New York Giants to he Super Bowl.

Wha??? Inconsistent since winning the superbowl? And you didn't even know about his consecutive games streak, one of, if not his best, accomplishments? Now, I will admit, even being a Packer fan, I think he is overrated a bit, but not too much. And no doubt he is one of the best ever, but no QB is indisputably the best because it depends on whether you look at personnel or team accomplishments. Brett is obviously tops on the personnel list with records with pretty much every stat available for a QB, but the team part is where people say he lacked, but he did only have 1 losing season his entire career.
