Do you really drink the standard 8 glass of water a day?

Do you follow it? Cause I sure don't... haha probably only 3-4 glass of water, which I know is very very unhealthy! I better start changing my habit. One of the reason probably is because I go to school, and I don't really want to bring a water jug with me...

I am confused on the water issue. Four days ago, Dr. Oz was on Oprah, (he is a Naturalist-Homeopath) and it was a great show. One of the studies, that shocked even Oprah is that we do not need to drink 8 glasses of water (or whatever) a day, for all the reasons that we have been told, like hydrating our skin, etc. He did a study with several people (I can't remember how many)..those that drank the 8 glasses, and those that didn't (over a long period of time) and there was absolutely no difference. You can view this by going to Oprah.com and link to Dr. Oz. It's eye-opening, and it was good news for me because I am not a great water drinker. Cheers.

You will be amazed when you watch that Oprah clip! A HUGE percentage of the foods we eat, veggies, fruit...and even meat is a very high percentage of water. Cheers.

This guy/girl seems to get dehydrated from time to time... Does this mean that he/she is just thinking about it psychologically? I meant he/she is not really dehydrated but just feeling he/she is?

Hi there! Well, I think I meet that eight glass of water requirement uncosciously though. I only drink water when eating the three major meals of the day but I really drink a lot. Maybe an average of three glasses of water per meal so that sums up to a total of nine glasses a day.

3 glass of water per meal? Lol! That's a bit too many for me... I think by that time, I'll also get full easily.

Neithr do I. There are times when I do drink more water than anything else. It just so happens that it is the recommended amount of water to drink. I don't know if its a requirement but, being healthy is your choice to begin with ^_^ Having your own water is quite convenient but, one of the disadvantages that I experienced when I bring my own water at school is that some of my classmates tend to ask for it and I couldn't directly tell the to bring their own.. ^_^;

A friend of mine, to avoid being asked for such things like that, put his already chewed gum in the water bottle so that, whenever the one who would ask for it sees the gum in the bottle, would retract and not ask anymore ^_^;

Lol, that do happen to me quite often too... I sometimes buy a bottle of water and when I drink it in class, some of them would ask me for it.

like i said to the similar forum, 8 is the average, but i think it is more to that, specially when hot season, 8 glasses is not enough, my father told me, it must be 12-15 glasses a day, and i agree with coz' other that keeping us hydrated, water also flushes out some of the toxins, as well help regulate blood sugar, and bloodclothing.

Haha... usually our parents are the ones who remind us to drink really lots of water. I usually do though, just after they advice me... but if they're not there I tend to forget to drink water.

No! I am addicted to Gatorade instead. I drinks lots more water during the summer months though, but not 8 glasses-one small bottle though instead. I can't drink it at night or I would be in the bathroom non stop!

yea, alot of those gatorades use high fructose corn syrups that they found contributes to weight gain. I think powerade has much more sugar but I usually go with Propel. During the summer when its over 80 I chug gatorades, powerade, AND powerade, whatever is closer :)

I heard that drinking Gatorade is not very healthy. It's ok to drink them, but not always! Like making it as a substitute for water or something.

Religiously, I used to drink water. It is good for you in a sense, yet at times we hear how horrible it can be as it has so much bad in it. Especially tap water. Of course, you can buy an expensive water purifier to clean out all the bad that is in water. I drink it sometimes at restaurants, except for Chinese Restaurants. In my opinion, water at Chinese Restaurants is the funniest tasting water I ever had. I drink plenty of Diet Cokes and coffee and of course, coffee has water in it. Does this count for drinking water?

No, not at all... All drinking liquids are composed of water. The ones that are healthy are told to be the ones that are pure as not only it hydrates you but it also cleanses the body. That is why drinking soft drinks tend to make you thirsty afterwards.

i think 8 glasses is too much.. we can have our need of water from drinking tea or coffee or juice.. if i drank 8 glasses of water I'll go to the bathroom every 10 minutes lol ..

It might be too much for some but health conscious people would say that people should drink at least 8 glass of them. I personally think it's too much, but somehow I need to. Sometimes I even had the tendency to not drink water at all but I'll force myself to drink at least one!

I EAT FRUIT! I gobble down honeydew, watermelon when its available, eat at least three apples a day and just juicy fruits. Fruit is composed of mostly water and it has all the phytonutrients you need. Basically the hype about water is so your body has that boost of getting the vitamins where they need to go, passing the waste, and aiding the organs which does help. But it doesnt hurt to make it work for you so if you cannot imagine 8 glasses of water try 3 and eat some fruit, its like an astringent for your body!!
• Philippines

Agree, this might help. Eating fruit would probably be a good substitute for drinking water.

I drank as much water as I can. I do indeed drank more of it in the Summer time than in the winter months.
• Philippines

Well... I think that's just what most people would do, as summer time can easily make you thirsty.

Yes.it is not easy for us students to obey the rules "drinking 8 glasses of water everyday." Because once you drink too much water means you have to go to toliet frequently,too. I failed to drink that much of water everyday. But when i stay at home sit down, i'll keep drinking water.

Actually going to a toilet after drinking water is not really an issue to me as I can easily go to one anyway. As a student however, what's more problematic is actually finding water and not having the time to drink that much.

Drinking water in the morning specially when you just woke up is a bit hard thing for me to do. I don't know if I am being lazy or it seems hard to drink at it in the morning haha

To avoid dehydration, we need to drink 8 glasses. Having said that, I only manage to drink 5-8 glasses daily although I do remind myself to drink plenty. Well, you dont have to bring a jug to school, but just try to drink 1 glass every 2 hours.
