What are you currently reading? What types of books do you like to read? Why? I love science fiction and fantasy - they allow me to travel into new worlds and get away from this one for a while. I'm not currently reading anything and am looking for something new to read. Who are your favorite authors? What would you reccomend? I am open to trying something from any genre as long as it is good :) I just love to read :)

Hello PersonalEnigma, There is a wide variety of subjects and materials that I like to read! From scientific articles, research papers and engineering books to History; Philosophy; Psychology; Politics; Economics; Energy; Countries, Cultures; People and Places; Geography; War technology; Intelligence and strategic issues; and last but not the least world’s religions. There are just lots of things that I don’t know, and the more I read, it just increases my knowledge of my ignorance of many things that I have never even touched. I just feel like having lots of brains and brain power, time and energy to absorb just about anything. And yes, I read novels too. I have only read horror, science fiction, mystery and thrill, and political intrigue. The last genre makes Jeffrey Archer my favorite; I also like Stephen King and Agatha Christie very much! I guess, I am an oldie about Novels, eh?

Wow, you read a lot of different materials! I enjoy some non-fiction, but it doesn't have the same "out of this world" appeal. Right now I've been focusing on non-fiction books about autism/aspergers so I can better help my son. Agatha Christie is good, but I've never been into the mystery novels. I've not read Jeffery Archer yet.

I can see appeal in “out of this world” material. They usually take us away from the problems of real life into fantasy world! For Jeffrey Archer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Archer

Thanks for the link! I took a look and realized that I have read one of his books - "As the Crow Flies". It was quite good. I should find some of his other books to read. He has a rather interesting life story doesn't he?

i know that by reading books you stimulate your creativity and imagination, i read since i was 4 and now i'm not reading books anymore, i don't know why... i guess that the time is guilty, or the internet but if i would have a book to read i would probably chose something that has many miths and misteryes in it

I think that many things go in spells. You really focus on one thing for a while, then it sits by the wayside as another interest takes its place. I was in a stage where I watched a ton of TV and didn't read, then I played a lot of video games and avoided TV, now I'm on the internet way too much... I'm sure you'll get back into reading one of these days :)

Patricia Cornwell...her "Scarpetta" character is awesome...forensics. If you've not read any of her books..is well worth it.

I'm reading the 'Holy Blood Holy Grail' by Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh, and Henry Lincoln. I love to read controversial books full of mystery, puzzles (not literally put) that challenges peoples minds and fantasy. I want my mind to be racing, my imagination soaring and reaching places I, obviously, cannot go to. I wanted to read books that are considered as the literature's wonder. But, if I find a very good book, I'll be very willing to read it. If it's recommended by a friend, then, I'll definitely try reading it.

Isn't it great to get a chance to explore places and see things that you'd never get to do in real life :) To me that's what reading is all about. I also enjoy a challenge - with two kids sometimes I need that intellectual stimulant.

I am currently going through a Douglas Adams phase, and recently completed the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series, and am now reading the 2nd Dirk Gentley book, "The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul". Stranger than fiction, these works are! LOL! But they make me laugh out loud, literally, and I adore that.

Douglas Adams is great :) I've read his books and thoroughly enjoyed them. I've only read one Dirk Gently book but should try to find more. I love the books with unusual senses of humour. Pierce Anthony's Xanth series is really neat for unusual humour as is Terry Pratchett.

I have a pretty eclectic taste, so I'm pretty open to reading a wide variety of different books. I'll read anything more on the literary side, and I'll avoid trashy novels. I really don't care for romance or science fiction.

I love the suspense and the adventure of the VC Andrew's series. Yep I know they are based on child abuse, but I have read just about everyone and there are alot of them. Is this very strange for a devoted grandma of 4????

That's ok. I really enjoy Law & Order SVU which is all about rape and child abuse... There is a strange fascination with stories like that - especially when you don't have to live them. I'll have to check out VC Andrews. Thanks :)

I'll read just about anything if I'm desparate enough! Like you, I enjoy SF&F quite a bit. I also like non fiction, especially travel books. And I like thrillers. I guess I have varied tastes!
