reading fiction is not a waste of time, if that is where you are getting at jayman. you can gain the same educational understanding from reading a fictional work than from reading something non-fiction. It just really depends on what you are reading. There are so many things to learn from fiction. That understanding you gain from reading fiction can be used in your daily life, just like something you read in a non-fiction book

Well, reading is a lot better than watching television.

Books, to me, are incredibly essential. It has became one of my routines and is part of my lifestyle. I felt empty when I didn't have a good read once in a while. It's like relieving stress and learning at the same time. Because of reading books, my vocabulary was increased dramatically. I'm just 15 and I'm way ahead the vocabulary level of the kids my age. I am sure that this is because of my passion in reading and writing.

I don't agree with him at all. Perhaps it is because I read a lot too. But reading is basically like a workout for your brain. So, you are just keeping your brain strong and healthy. So, perhaps you should tell your bf that there is enough time to exercise your brain with reading and your senses with the world around you.

Absolutely not. Reading is a fabulous way to broaden your mind and your vocabulary, so that you are better informed when you do go out and meet the world. Does your boyfriend watch lots of films or TV? Mine does, then comes out with exactly the same line. Ridiculous!

The best time spent is reading. Fiction is much more fascinating than reality. There's absolutely nothing wrong with reading too much, unless it doesn't allow you to complete other needed daily tasks. The more you read, the more you will learn about yourself and others.

Oh please! How many books has your boyfriend read? You can still read and know about the world about you first hand. He's probably jealous because you're reading and not paying him enough attention. Or that's what he thinks. Keep reading. And if he keeps badgering you about reading then you can let him go with that extended vocabulary you've gained from reading.

My husband says the same thing and now I find myself reading less. When I first met him (14 years ago) I read alot of romance novels and he would tell me that was the kind of life I was looking for so I started reading more of other types of books. I guess that is a plus beacuse I now enjoy a wider variety. Don't let anyone spoil your fun!!
