I can't stand the very sweet Chinese food in America. I heard it's not typical in China. Any details?

I've never had authentic Chinese food, but a lot of what I've had in america is very junk food-ish. i think it's pretty greasy and sometimes too sweet. But I do love Panda Express' Spicy Tofu1 xD

Of course ,it is not typical in China. Chinese food covers different styles .For example ,I am live in Xiamen in China , the most delicious food is sea food which is alway salt. But if you go to Sichuan in China , you may find that their food is very hot . The excellent Chinese food is in China not in America .Welcome to China to enjoy the real Chinese food~~

no,your cognizance about chinese food is very narrow and unilateral.Actually chinese food have multifarious of taste for it's vast territory.for example, some location's people like hot taste, but the other location's people like sour taste...If you have a chance to come to china, you'll trust my words typed here.^^

Yes ,Americans like sweetmeat more than chinese. So lots of chinese food in America have been changed to cater to the taste of Americans.

The thing is that China is a very diverse place and has a lot of regional cuisines. The Chinese food that most Westerners think of is either Cantonese, Peking or an invention of migrant chinese to suit local tastes. I've never found the food in China to be like that we have in the UK or that I remember from USA. I think it is way too sweet in USA, more authentic in the UK but nothing compares to actually being in China and just trying everything you get the chance to try.

i agree on norfolk_jim, ittastes somehow different when it is brought to different areas like us or uk, as for here in the philippines, chinese foods are a bit salty because they adopted local taste of pinoys.
