Do you wear contacts or glasses?

I used to wear contacts for years, then I got Glaucoma so can't wear them any more and am now wearing glasses again. I preferred the contacts and today you can get different colours. They are so easy to wear now. I first got contacts back in the 60's and they were these big round plastic things that would pop out at the blink of an eye (literally) LOL. What do you like to wear and why?

So glad you started this, I have to call today to get my appointment for new contacts set up and my oldest daughter's exam and I almost forgot! I got glasses when I was 9-10 and always hated them. I finally got contacts when I was 13 and rarely wore my glasses after that. I haven't even had a pair of glasses in 9 years or so. I only wear contacts and get the kind that you can sleep in and throw out. I haven't tried colors but my eye color is nice so I'm not really interested. This time around I'm considering springing for glasses again though. I have a stigmatism AND a scar on the cornea of my right eye so contacts can't ever get my vision perfectly clear. Glasses won't help with the scar but the stigmatism won't be noticeable. The edges of things get blurry and it's really bad when I drive at night. I figure it will be better to wear glasses for night driving plus on the nights I do have my contacts out it gets hard to stumble around the house when the baby wakes up.

I know what you mean. I miss wearing mine but it is easier to just flop the glasses on in a pinch. I always hated putting them in, such a ritual.

I wear glasses. - eye glasses
Many years ago when I was younger... I tried wearing contacts and had a lot of problems with them so I started wearing glasses. Now I'm wearing bi focals and it's sooo nice to be able to see again . My eye doctor said I'm in the early stages of glaucoma . I actually wish it would progress so I can get the surgery to get rid of it. I know a lot of people who have had it and it worked out great for them.

I've had glaucoma for 4 years now. it started in my left eye and now it's in my right eye. My doctor hasn't mentioned anything about an operation even though I am having some sight problems with the left eye, it's really gotten worse. what, is he going to wait until I go blind!

I wear glasses. I don't think I will ever switch to contacts. I am just too used to glasses already. I find glasses also provide that extra "protection".

I never thought of that as far as protection goes. Who knows how many times I could have lost my eye over the years without these protective things on my nose!

I had never used an eye contact. I don't want to put something directly on my eye, I guess it would irritate me. What i use is eyeglasses just for reading.

Really, they don't bother you much once you get used to putting them in your eyes and they have very comfortable ones now.

wear glasses myself - just can't stand the thought of deliberately putting something in my eyes - sends a shiver down my spine just thinking about it

I wear contacts now, but wore glasses for years. Since I'm older now, my arms aren't long enough anymore, so I need bifocals, so I wear bifocal contacts. They're awesome! I still need reading glasses for very close work, but just normal day to day things are fine with the contacts. I still have my glasses for when I take my contacts out at night. I'm so blind that I couldn't feel my way to the bathroom without assistance. My glasses are gradient (or whatever they're called) so there is no line of distinction for bi/tri-focal. They work for far away and for reading, but they're not good for looking at the computer screen.

I had bifocal contacts too and I really liked them. I have to take my glasses off though to read and I found it hard to read things since I couldn't take the contacts out every time I needed to read something really small.

I used to wear mostly contacts, but over the years, and with the arrival of new health problems, I've found it too hard to wear them. They were really starting to hurt my eyes. I plan to wear them again, someday, when my health is better. I wore them for 20 years before I stopped. When I was younger, I could wear them all day, but now I can't. I remember my mom having contacts in the 70s and the were so huge!

I got mine in the 60's and it was interesting to see the progression from huge and uncomfortable to very small and so light you hardly know they are there. Contacts have come a long way. I hope I can wear them again some day. I just paid $400 for new glasses and contacts are way cheaper. Mind you when they first came out they were so expensive you got insurance on them in case you lost one (which happened alot) LOL.

I wear bifocals and have for a long time. My choice would be contacts, but eye doctor says I can't wear them because of my vision problems. I have been wearing glasses since I was five years old. I'm lucky I can see anything, so no complaints here.

I had those big plastic contacts years ago - no wonder I quit wearing them after awhile. I had glasses for years then had cataract surgery and got the intraocular lenses. Mono vision ones no less. Very nice but now I need driving glasses again since the vision is changing again. I don't mind the glasses at all and if I need to wear them full time again may do so. In my opinion, the glasses hide the bags under my eyes, or at least I like to think so haha. whit

Same here Whitt, I have those bags too, permanent ones and the glasses seem to hide them a bit! Isn't aging great!

I love my contacts. :) I look better in them than glasses and i don't have to worry about my dog eating them. :)

I used to wear glasses, then contacts, then glasses again because I could never get contacts to be comfortable for me. But, 3 years ago, I had Lasik surgery and couldn't be happier. No more cleaning my glasses every couple hours. No contact routines on a daily basis. And, clearer vision than I have with glasses!

For my personal appearance I'd rather contacts. But I also like glasses as well for those days that I'm feeling lazy or I'm not feeling well enough to poke myself in the eye. There are also the easier 30 day and 30 night contacts that you only need to change once a month. If I had the extra money I would probably get those. As of right now, all I have are my contacts, as I lost my glasses. It was actually quite a funny story. I was really sick, and had a lot of flem build up. Yes I know, that's gross, but that's not the whole story! We were on our way to the hospital because my cousin was having a baby. Halfway there on the highway I really had to get rid of some of that flem, so I opened my window to spit it out. I spit it out alright, along with getting my glasses pulled right off my face out the window! I was blind for 3 days, due to the fact that at that point I didn't even have contacts and had to make an appointment to get them. My boyfriend tried going back to the spot on the highway where I lost them, but to all his efforts he never found them. I haven't gotten another set yet, but I'm going to need to soon.

I wear glasses because it's more practical. Contacts require you to wash it regularly and takes time to put them on. If you cry or dust enters your eyes, it could also be uncomfortable. Most of all though i can't stand putting something in my eye, takes time to adjust i guess but i dont like it

I'm wearing glasses because i find that wearing of contact lenses is a hassle to me, having to put on everyday b4 leaving house, and taking it out b4 sleep.. If not using those disposables ones, still need to wash them and soak inside the lotion.. And i choose glasses because i wun look so fierce with my glasses on.. hehe
