I just heard that there is a recall on two brands of pear juice which may be contaminated. Beech Nut (usually for young children and babies) and President's Choice pear juice are being recalled because it has been found that it may be contaminated. Is there nothing safe anymore?

oh no! I am glad i haven't bought any juice! that's awful! I am always leary anymore of what I buy and eat...unfortunately unless you grow your own food doesn't seem much is safe...and even that has its own risks...

Fertilizers, even all natural stuff now, is a big carrier of the harmful bacterias we worry about. A few years ago, there was a recall of some vegetables in a place near us because the crop had been water that was contaminated with the toxins from cow manure that was in the soil from another nearby farm.

I heard that on the radio this morning. It is said that it's contaminated with arsenic! I have no idea how that could happen, and am just glad that my kids aren't drinking that anymore. We used to go through a lot of pear juice when they were infants (I preferred it over the apple juice). Granted, we only used Heinz products, because we got them at a discounted rate from one of their factories near where their paternal grandparents live.

The problem could be in the plant if they are using rat poison or some other similar pest control, I think. It could get on the fruit or the equipment. Just an idea, don't know if it's the reason or not.
