It's a little hard to recommend novels when I don't know where your interests lie but I think I'd recommend THEM by Nathan McCall to just about anybody. It's a wonderful book about the effects of gentrification in an Atlanta neighborhood. It's a beautifully written, character driven novel that has a lot to say and it's author manages to build tension without reverting to any cheap tricks. It's a book worth reading by an author worth watching.
