Slave To Fashion, Or a Style All Of Your Own?

I love clothes, I think there is nothing better than treating yourself to something new to make yourself feel good.
I have 2 friends who are dedicated followers of fashion and have to have the latest in clothes, and they take notice of the styles that the celebrities wear and just have to have the same or similar styles.I dont get this at all, dont get me wrong I love nice clothes but, I dont want to look the same as everyone else, I never have not from being a teenager and I am now 34. I like to be different from everyone else, I dont have a lot of money to spend on clothes and shoes, so I dont want to spend what money I do have on things only to find that every other girl is wearing the same thing! I also think that some of the fashions that celebrities set are really awful!
So what about you? What do you think of the fashions that celebrities set? Are you a dedicated follower of fashion or are you a trendsetter and have a style of your own that makes you stand out from the rest?

I definatley go for a style of my own, love unusual items, even vintage,I like shopping different places and even things like "samples" and markets to finf different stuff from everyone else.

I like unusual things, I dont have much time or money to go shopping as much as I used to, but I keep telling myself that as soon as I can I am going to start going shopping again.

For me kind of both, I am a slave to fashion in the way that I wear the man unifrom(the suit) almost everyday like everyone else I work with, I accesories diffrently giving me a style that's diffrent then most other people.

Well I guess that it is hard to be different if you have to wear something the same as everyone else but the accessories are what makes you different and expresses you!

I have to tell ya..that drives me NUTS!! For me what we wear should be an expression of OURSELVES not some famous person or the popular person at work or school...I'll never understand why a person would want to dress like someone else..I really won't..Where is the individuality in that ya know..where is the self expression??
I wear what I like which is NOT anywhere near whats "currently in"...I have no time for that nonsense...its totally not me...I'm definately a "unique dresser" as its been put to me which is great becuase it matches my "unique personality" (which has also been said to me LOL) so that works

I hear you and I totally agree, it is an expression of who you are, a way of describing yourself, I have never followed fashion at all, I would not be able to tell you whats hot and whats not and when I do see it, its a whats not for me. My friend knows it all and when she talks about it I just have not got a clue. I used to be really expressive in what I wore and I did not care what others thought, in fact the more they pulled a face the worse I would get. I love being different and none of my things coincide with whats hot at all.

I also love clothes, but I have never just wore what "the stars" are wearing, I have always had a style of my own, sometimes a bit off the wall, but hey its me and I'm happy. My man is all cowboy and at times he just smiles and says "so we're feeling a little hippy today" and if that is my mood thats what I wear :)

I think its great that you choose to create your own style, I think clothes are another way of describing you as a person and so if you choose to wear what stars wear then you are hiding yourself away, you are not showing who you are.

I always have my own style!In my opinion,the best for others is not really the best for you.I just choose the clothes suitale.What the celebrities wear is just for show and that clothes is expensive,I don't think it deserve our money.So,just wear according to yourself!That is the best choice.

I don't really care about fashion. I know what i like and will wear it if that's what makes me comfortable. I've looked through magazines where these models are wearing some way off the wall clothes that I'd consider weird. I guess it's the so called "fashion" but it's not for me. I just go with myself and what I'm feeling.

I have no idea what's in fashion, and I don't need to know.
I buy what I like, what looks good on me, so I always look stylish, even if I may not look fashionable.
after all, who wants to wear the same things everyone else is wearing.
I'm very fond of corsetry and victoriana, as well as 40s and 50s retro styles and old hollywood glamour.
fashion is for people that have no idea what looks good.
so they need someone to tell them.
