i was really pleased with myself and all my hard work to have made a profit of $ 200.00 from all my junk.the day had its pitfalls though.firstly i can hardly move tonight from carrying the boxes down stairs.the dealers came and gave me a headache as they wanted everything for nothing.my son was a right pain in the bottom,i am sunburnt.but hey it was worth it and the bonus was mum came over and while i was dealing with those horrid dealers, she cleaned my house, what a bonus.do you have any garage sale horror stories,or did yours go well. i have to admit i did meet some really nice people which made the day pleasant.cheers sue

We had a garage sale last summer over a weekend and did pretty well too. We were moving from one house to another and Sunday we noted that everything was half off. That cleared some items. The last couple hours we said just make an offer. The funny thing was is I had a fmaily pulled up and offered $20 for a broken tv. They could have taken every that I had left for $20!! Least to say, I gave the rest away to charity. Garage sales are so much fun!

i found it amazing what people actually bought.i had one guy who was absolutely delightful and asked me about this picture i had for sale.i never thought that anyone would buy it.it was old and the frame was crappy.it was a picture of the thames river in london,it was where he met his wife,so he bought it and is going to fix it up and give it to her.how sweet.yes i had a fun day.cheers sue

well i think i just answered that question in the wrong spot, but the coolest thing i got was a 3-d puzzle for the kids which they loved.i had never ever seen one.also i love finding a bargain with the fine china, people do not realise how valuable a shelleys cup and saucer can be and you can get them cheap.i love my garage sale hunts.cheers sue

that is great! I know what you mean about dealers...they think you don't know what your stuff is worth and try to get boxes upon boxes of stuff for just a couple bucks so they can sell it for more...I call them vultures, lol. I've done a lot of flea markets, that is a major pain - have to put everything in a truck and hope like heck it sells just so you don't have to lug it back home! It's nice though, a few hundred people might walk past your table and buy something - I never made less than $100 in just a few hours that way. I am sad to learn they closed the only one by our house down though! So I am going to have to have one giant yard sale this summer hopefully - our house is off the beaten path, but neighbors have seemed to have successful ones with cars jamming up our narrow little road...We have so much junk - there are boxes piled to the ceiling in the garage from when we moved last May -obviously not anything we need that badly! $200 is great - I think you owe it to yourself to relax & get some aloe for that sunburn!

That's great! I've had only one real successful yardsale myself. We had a yardsale right before we moved to this house (about 3 years ago)and made about $400. We had a lot of stuff though, because we were also "combining households" at the time, so there was furniture and knicknacks and some collectable sports stuff. Most of the "high ticket" items came from my BF, since I had just come out of a small onebedroom apartment and hadn't accumulated much stuff in the first place. But we were thrilled with ourselves at the end of the day. We did have some dealers come early and offer really low prices on stuff, too. We just told them that if they came back at 1pm and the item was still there, we would sell it to them for that price (since we didn't want to haul it all to the thriftstore anyway).

Wow that is really awesome. I may need to start doing a grage sale. But you may need to start selling on ebay. I have also heard of half. com. I heard it is a site that ebay has also bought.

i hope you do well with your garage sale when you have one.i would not sell on e-bay,as i find them way too expensive with the fees,i sell on oztion here in australia as there are no fees unless you actually sell an item.thanks for sharing.cheers sue

Wow, that's great! Did you sell a lot of smaller items, or were there some big ticket items that helped you get to that amount? I've never done a very successful yard sale. I've only done it once or twice when moving and just tossed some things together at the last minute. I moved last Aug and made probably $50-60 the day before I packed up. Right now I've got a very large storage locker that needs to be weeded through and half the stuff sold. It's costing me almost $100 a month for the storage locker and I'd like to make some money from some of the items and then be able to get a smaller locker.

actually i sold a lot of smaller items for 10 cents - a dollar.i find that people do not want to pay a lot for things and i made mine cheap, and people actually bought more because it was affordable.one lady spent over fifty dollars on bits and pieces, she was my biggest customer.i just wanted to get rid of the stuff and it is a bonus to get some great money for it.i hope your next sale is good for you.cheers sue

What I find even more interesting is the kind of things people throw out! They will have a garage sale or just plain get bored of something and just throw it to the curb. I have been introduced to something called 'freecycle' which people will post things they now longer need so other people can take it. To me, I find it terrible to throw something out that someone else can use: post it up on someplace like Freecycle or give it to a local charity (hey! a tax write off!). Summer will be hear soon. Garage sale season! What is the coolest thing you ever found at someone elses' sale?

We had a huge garage sale before we moved clearing out tons and tons of stuff we didn't want to move. Now that we're relocated I sure miss some of that it. So I have to go to garage sales now and find it all back haha. We didn't get much money per item and some of the offers were downright insulting. The furniture especially went for a very small fraction of the cost new and it was in pretty good shape. That was the hardest. It's always interesting, the stuff you think will move right out stays and some of the other stuff goes really fast. We gave a bunch of stuff to Goodwill at the end and they seem to be able to sell the stuff so it worked out.

Glad to hear that your garage sale went well! I wish I had enough things to put out for a garage sale or even the place to have one. But its always good to see that someone made some extra money with selling things they no longer use.
