I Can't Sleep!!!!

It's 2 am and I have to get ready for work in 3 hours. I went to bed at 10 pm, but I couldn't fall asleep. I have a million things wandering through my brain and I can't get rid of them! So I got up and took 1/2 a sleeping pill and now I'm waiting for it to kick in. Probably a bad thing to do, but I'll just be a zombie tomorrow if I don't get any sleep! How do you relax and stop thinking about stuff so you can fall asleep? I tried to meditate, but that didn't work. I just hate it when this happens!

Television helps me tremendously to fall asleep. I make sure something is on that I really like to watch and it's a guarantee that I'll fall asleep. It works every night. Once in awhile I will try to read a book but that doesn't make me sleepy enough. I did try counting sheep one night and that did work. Sometimes old fashioned ideas work well.

I have been in the same situation with a million things running through my brain when I lie down to sleep. The solution that I have found to work for me is to write down everything that is running through your brain. This way you know that you won't forget anything because you have written it down and it releases the thought from your head so you can have a clear head before sleeping. I now have the opposite problem to you. Because I keep a list of all the things I need to do I now get tired earlier and fall asleep before I get everything done.

I use Chamomile tea or hot chocolate milk or just plain milk. That does it for me. I do pray first, thanking God, and asking HIM for forgiveness for my sins that I did, etc. and then I make sure to stop worrying or thinking about half an hour after I am in bed and tucked in. I will have to go up to go to the bathroom, because being 65, it does happen, but it does not take me long to fall asleep. Anyway, the problem usually resolves itself in your dreams.

I have experienced the same thing like yours and you know, I feel so frustrated that I really want to sleep but It seems like there is something going on inside that makes me up. I tried this one time and hope it will work for you: I drink hot tea. I was sitting in my bed, with a pillow at my back, lights are all turned off and I sip the hot tea as I listen to instrumental music, it is soothing, it helps me relax and after a few moments I finally got the mood to sleep and I even had a sweet dream. =)

When I can't sleep in the middle of the night I watch TV for a while, read or listen to music. If I get too bored to stay in bed, I get up and turn on the computer for a while, make myself a little tired, and then go back to bed.

oh.. do not let your self be used to using sleeping pills, my boss had once told me that te effect of sleeping pills in him lasts only 4 hours and everyday he takes pills and only sleeps 4 hours daily. he needed to get medical help so he can sleep all better without the pills. just close your eyes and try not to think much of anything. just close it, and feel the peace in the darkness you see. or imagine the sea... something like that... do not think about work, your problems, it will help a lot if you can clear your mind first.

I find it very difficult to stop thinking about stuff that's milling around in my head. So, what I do, is keep a jar of lavender flowers beside my pillow. If I'm finding it difficult to sleep, I unscrew the cap and let the aroma drift around me. I'm asleep within ten minutes... no sweat, and I sleep for eight hours. Lavender is a very relaxing herb... try it! Brightest Blessings.

I usually get up and drink a glass of milk and play a few mindless games of solitare or put on one of my CD's I put together with songs I can lose myself in. Most general I am asleep within about 30 to 45min., less if I bypass the milk and just put the CD on.

Hello dear leeesa. I am sorry to know that you were not able to fall asleep three hours ago. I guess that you are up now working at your table in the office. Sometimes I have this problem as well. The more I want to fall asleep, the less I can make it. As a result, I am so tired and exhausted the next day. So the best way to make me fall asleep is not to think about anything while in bed so that I can keep my mind inactive for a quality sleep. I hope that you will have a try next time and I wish you a sweet sleep. Thanks.

I think this is the worst torture ever! Watching the time ticking away knowing that you have to get up again in just a few hours. It gets even worse when you finally fall asleep a couple of hours, if that, before you do have to get up and then you feel rough! I get like this from time to time, I try a cup of cocoa or horlicks, and then I try to relax by doing my favourite thing, reading I try to soothe my thoughts by thinking about anything other than things that are worrying me, although this is easier said than done. I dont go on the computer or watch tv if I cannot sleep though as it wakes me up even more. The other thing I do is stick a lavender sachet in my pillow as this is supposed to aid restful sleep. I remember about ten years ago when I worked in a nursing home, I would get this way a lot and after a few nights of being unable to sleep, someone recommended herbal sleep tablets that you can buy so I bought some. Well I followed the instructions and waited for sleep to come, an hour or so later, still awake, so I took some more, still nothing. After another 2 hours I thought I would just take a couple more, they had no medicines in them because they were herbal and so I figured I could not overdose, so I took some more. Next thing I know it is 1.00pm the next afternoon! I had slept through work, everything! I phoned in work and explained and luckily they were really understanding and they even found it funny that I managed to overdose on herbal tablets!

I have been having the same problem lately. First, sometimes taking a nice warm bath helps to relax me and makes me sleepy. This morning I woke up and I couldn't sleep and I knew I needed to sleep some more. I had some negative thoughts floating around in my head, preventing me from feeling tired. So, I pictured myself on a beach, relaxing in the sun, slowly getting sleepy, until I difted off to sleep. It really helped me. Also, sometimes putting on the TV helps me to drift to sleep and takes my mind off my thoughts. This doesn't work for everyone but it has worked for me. However, if this problem keeps persisting, I would speak to a doctor. They sometimes can prescribe Zanex or some otther fast acting anxiety pill. Sometimes over active thoughts can be a sign of anxiety or stress and you might not even be aware of it. I have had several problems sleeping in the past and this has helped me. He also may be able to prescribe a prescription sleeping pill that helps better than the over the counter ones.

I know how frustrating this is. I have tried many things. I have tried meditation and relaxation techniques: do not work. I have tried reading - nope. I have tried just to lie there and relax at least. I have tried warm milk, tea - sleeping pills does not work well either. i wake up after a short time and they make me feel bad. The only thing that works for e is to watch something completely meaningless on tv. Then I might fall asleep. I hope you got some sleep and that it will be easier tonight.

Just turn the lights off, and don't do anything, don't think. I don't have trouble sleeping except in the summer, I've spent entire nights waiting to sleep in my bed and then doze off. I wake again to find I fell alseep 15 to 20 minutes and it's so frustrating. I've heard you shouldn't watch tv or use the computer like two hours before sleeping, because it could still be stimulating your mind. Or, you can spend the next nights cleaning up or organizing your things. I've done that a couple of times, even if you don't fall alseep, at least something got done.

Its horrible!!....not too often it happens to me,but I just abandon all hope of sleep. I go downstairs and turn the tv on low, make a cuppa, lay there and just meditate!! I know theres going to be very little sleep that nite so I just go with it!!! If I stay awake in bed all my little worries spiral out of control!!!
