I've been going to therapists for years and personally don't know what I would do without one in my life! Not only are they there to help me get through some rough times in my life but they give me ideas to use when I'm alone to get through those times by myself and they make me think and talk about things in my life that I would otherwise keep bottled up inside and should deal with. So many people don't believe in therapy and telling a stranger your problems but they say they are the people who need it the most and I have known people like that. They go through life not talking about what bothers them and end up with ulcers and other physical problems and don't know why. What is your personal feeling about going to a therapist? Do you or have you ever been to one? What have your experiences been?

You are lucky that you found a good therapist that can help you. Because I have been to many therapists and none have really been any help to me. I just honestly feel like my past sessions have been just money flushed down the toilet.

If I have a really good therapist, I love going to them. My current therapist is awesome, and talking to her has really helped me. She's good at giving me insight about my life, and also at dealing with me on my level instead of saying the same things that would help someone with my history but a different personality, or different ways of looking at the world. In the past, however, I've had some therapists that made things worse rather than better for me. These were usually the ones who seemed to make the same blanket statements to everyone, and weren't willing to consider how my own beliefs and ideas affected my reactions to things. Or the ones who made unfair judgments based on moral or religious rules that didn't match up with mine. Grrr. So, in my opinion, it's all about finding the right therapist, and you shouldn't be afraid to keep looking until you find the right one.
