Do you take public transportation or do you drive your own car?

We have one car in our family and my boyfriend needs the car for his job as he does home visits. I end up taking the bus to work, but he picks me up after work. The bus system here is excellent. It runs from very early in the morning to very late at night and each schedule runs every 15 minutes to half hour. I live in the 5th largest city in the United States and surprisingly enough driving is not too much of a hassle either. Which do you take public transportation or do you drive yourself? Is it convenient to get where you are going or do you think they need a better system?

I take a public transport since I dont have any car of my own. I used to borrow my mom's car once in a while when it was still in good condition and i have some emergency or urgent things to carry home since work is far from home. But now that I dont have a choice, I take the public transport. Its ok for me as my expenses would have been high if I have been driving my own car. I find it advantageous also to take the public transport since my work is 2 hours away, I get to sleep and rest before and after work but not when Im driving. Although I dont like it especially during Mondays when the bus is all cramped up with people and I have to stand long.

I drive my own car, thank goodness. I live out in the boonies where public transportation is not available. I'd have to walk about 5 miles to get to a bus stop and with no sidewalks to safely walk on and kids in tow it would be ridiculous to even attempt it, especially with the speed limits out here. I know what it is like to have only one vehicle in the family. It was like that for a few years in my household. I'd wait until my husband got home from work (unless he had the day off) to run any errands that needed to be made. It was a pain in the butt most days, but at least we had something to drive, and for that I am truly thankful!

public transportation is much better because you can save gasoline, hassle free to park when parking lot is full as long as you are not the kind of going to several places all the time. from other country like my country public transportation is much better than a car because of heavy traffic flow in there. Now that i have a car i don't go somewhere else much because gasoline is expensive. i just go out whenever necessary!

i and my hubby also only have one car and since i don't have a licence yet here in australia, hubby is the one who is always taking the car... but he always drop me and pick me up from work everyday... so i don't have to take public transport and it is working well for us...

i am guessing we don't have it because not enough people would use it and it would cost way to much if we did. we live in the country way out. it takes us almost 30 minutes just to get to a store. if there is an emergency then we call the cops, ambulance, fire company or 911. for older people that can't drive and need to get back and forth to the doctors we have vans that go around and pick them up and take them home.

we are outside the city limits so there is no public transportation available to us. I would likely use it or walk if I lived in town. Do you purchase a season pass or pass as you go?

I drive my own car the bus rides around here are not safe hell driving in your car around here isn't too safe either. I wouldn't take my kids on it.

I do not have my own car. To me, the cost for own a car is too great, while I do not go out often. If I have to visit some place, I can use the public transportation. Here the subways, buses and taxies are good enough to meet my need.

It's great to hear of big cities which have a good efficient public transport network. I have worked over 40 years in public transport in UK and have done almost every job, including bus driving. The UK is a hotch-potch of systems, some good, like London, and some ver bad in the provincial cities. The worst thing that happened was when Margaret Thatcher sold off the bus companies in the 80's to private ownership as those people were, and still are only interested in their private profit rather than providing an essential public service.

I don't have a car so I use public transportation. I use mainly the subway, because traffic is pathetic in Bucharest, especially in the morning and evening. Not to talk of the endless road reparations... And to make it all worse, many main streets are closed this week because of the NATO summit... That's why I like subway so much: it takes me where I need to go, I doesn't get stuck in traffic and it's much faster as it is.

I take the bus to work every day. Toronto has one of the best mass transit systems in North America. In the summer, I put my bicycle on the bike rack, and then ride it home after work. It saves me money and it's a lot faster during rush hour.

I am forced to tak a public transportation since my own bike is there at my home place and i work at a different location which is quite far away from my home town. I love driving my bike. I had it when i was in college. But when i got appointed for a job, i had to move to a different city, so i could not take my boke then. I dont own a car bcoz i m not in a position to. So right now i have to either take a bus or tempo to go to my company office daily. I am hoping to buy a new bike over here so that it becomes easy for me to travel from my place to my office and vice-versa.

Our public transport system is rubbish, the buses do not run too well at all and it always takes forever to get where you want to go. I do not drive and so I am stuck unless my hubby can take me where I want to go. Its a bit annoying if I wanted to go shopping on a day when he is at work and the kids are in school as I have to make sure I am back to pick them up, I have to allow an hour and half travelling time. So most of the time there is no point!

well, i do like public transportation rather than going to our own car. As we don't have a car lolz, but we used to have a car few years ago, and we get fed up with that crap car, it always give some error and we have to service it regularly and instead of servicing i think we need to go through the BUS or any CAB...its better convienient option for us.
