I just read the discussion about getting allsmoker s to stand up and say they think smoking is sexy and glamourous andd they love todo it. well I disagree.smoking kills your heart and destroys your lungs and messes up your metabolism. so what is there to like about it it is addictive and ruins your health. second hand smoke from allthese smokers injures childrens lungs and causes people who are allergic to wheeze and to really suffer. Is this glamourous? And stinking like a tobacco factory on fire is this sexy? am I the only one who will not smoke.I lost myhusband because he smoked himself to death. He had only twenty percent of his heart functioning when he died and that is what his doctor told me while I stood there crying.

Hatley, I'm a smoker and even I agree with you. I wish I had never started. Its not glamorous in the least, it smells bad, makes your teeth discolored, to name a few deficits. I'd like to quit. I've been smoking for over 30 years and never have wanted to quit until the last few months, but its one of those things thats easier said than done. At least for me.

I find it hard to believe allthis so called research that is being pushed by smokers as I jst cannot believethat all the medical profession would be that malicious and say thingsthat are not true.it just does not seem possibleto me I havea feelingthat alot of that research is being pushed by smokers and is slanted .

Hello Hatley, that is really sad about your husband and I am really sorry that you went through that. I read that discussion and never responded to it, I am a smoker and I started smoking at the age of 14, I quit it on my 30th birthday and did so for 3 years, it was hard but I had had enough and I did it. Unfortunately I began again last year, I was going through a whole heap of personal problems, had no one to turn to about it all and so turned to that again. I do not think it is sexy, glamorous or anything good, I hate that I stink and I make myself go outside and smoke so I am not near my children. I do not smoke as many as I used to, from being on 20 a day I am down to 7 and those are my cannot go without times, those are what keeps my withdrawals from kicking in. I will quit again, I am nearly at the stage where I am sick of it. But I do not gloat about it and would not subject anyone else to it.

Although I do feel for you for the loss of your husband to blame smoking for all health problems isn't right either. So many of the "studies" done on smoking are not good science. It's propaganda only. There are other studies that show that smoking is not only beneficial with some diseases but can be protective. If you would like to read some studies you can do so here: http://www.forces.org/evidence/evid/therap.htm and here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/htmlContent.jhtml?html=/archive/1998/03/08/wtob08.html I also recognize your right not to smoke. That is your choice. Please allow me the right to smoke if I so choose.

Fair enough. I just wish others would be as respectful and not get in my face about smoking.

Yes I do know what you mean and respect you for that. I know how it is to have someone get in your face tooas I am overweight and some people actually say do you know youre overweight and that it is unhealthy:"I have to say yes I am not blind nor stupid and I am under a doctor's care, what is your excuse for being rude?" that usually stops further remarks.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband. I do wish people would be bold enough to stand up to smokers. I get tired of hearing them whine about their rights. What about my right not to have to breathe second hand smoke?

I agree and sometimes the smoker will move with you so you still have to breathe his second hand smoke specially bad when waiting for a bus.

my only comment to you is no comment as this discussion cost me too much because a lot of people are so childish they hit minus just because I do not smoke.so no more discussion on this subject at all.

Count me in. I love my brother so much and it kills me whenever he smokes. He believes me when I say it's bad, that's not a question but he can't stop it. It's addicting. If anyone does not smoke and wants to try it out of curiousity, they're getting themselves into a big trouble.

I agree whole heartedly just do not start then you will not get addicted. I watched myhusband and wanted to help but could not and I felt so lost.

smoking isn't sexy or glamorous even though i do it i know that its not good for me and i should probably quit. but i guess theres so many things that cause cancer even people who don't smoke get lung cancer its like we can't do anything without getting cancer i know smoking doesn't help my chances of getting cancer in my lungs but i'm addicted and its so hard to quit
