John Lennon After The Beatles

I have been listening to a number of different John Lennon tracks, ones he made as a solo artist and I have come up with the following observations. Even though John wrote great songs after the Beatles, he didn't do a very good job in presenting and producing them, until his last 2 albums. I personally, don't like the way his voice sounded on a lot of his recordings. It was almost too high and weak sounding. Whether that was John and/or Yoko (John apparently didn't like the sounds of his natural voice) or whether it was Phil Spector, I don't know. I think with the Beatles, John(as was Paul) had to work with the others in the band and subsequently, the Beatles would more often than not create unique sounds as well trying to write/play a song differently, where as a solo artist, it often appears to me that John just went into the studio and recorded the song with acoustic guitar and then session musicians were brought in to help finish off the albums. I wonder if John really didn't care at that stage or what, but, it does seem a shame that so many of his great songs end up sounding like he is singing to a backup band at a disney theme park. Anyway, that my thoughts, anyone think the same?

I think that much of the creativity and energy were gone from Lennon's work later in his life. I believe he was more interested in the message than the medium and it showed.

Hi justa. I love The Beatles and I need to say that after Beatles, nothing, any more. I know that it can sound a radical thing but I think that Yoko kill the Beatles and confuse John. After Beatles, John seem to be a half part of John. I don't know if I'm clear with this but sometimes in photos or reports he seem so sad. I think that he know that your career never more be the same. Don't know, it's only my opinion. cheers

Hi! I think John Lennon's solo material varies immensely in quality. I hate Imagine - I find it far too twee and sentimental but I love "Nobody told me" - which is a great catchy song. The stuff I dislike most is the Plastic Ono Band material. John Lennnon wouldn't have been anyone without Paul McCartney and therefore i think that the Beatles music is far superior to anything Lennon put out on his own
