How Does Snow & Hail Come From The Same Cloud?

I know this might sound like a really daft question, but we have just had a little bit of snow, and then it turned to hail and then it stopped. So I am wondering how does that happen? What is the actual difference between snow and hail and how did that cloud make snowflakes and hail balls at the same time?

LOL honey that isn't a daft question - that is a brilliant question! Wish I could answer it with more confidence but I don't really know! I think it is more to do with the temp and atmosphere when it leaves the cloud than anything else although as I said I am not sure! xxx

Well I was hoping someone would be able to tell me, it is just one of those things that you think about and then think, Ok so how does that happen!! It is strange when you really think about it!! Thanks for trying to help though!!xx
