I've had a lot of friends getting married and having babies lately. I've found that theres some gifts people aren't very enthusiastic about and others that people really love. I've started just giving the gifts that have had really good reception in the past. These are knitted baby blankets or quilted baby blankets. I make them as a hobby through out the year then when a friend or family member has a baby I have a gift made and ready and i dont have to search for the perfect gift. I find people seem to like handmade so much better than store bought. What kinds of baby gifts have you given that you give again to others...or havent given again? If you're a parent..what sorts of gifts did you appreciate and enjoy the mosts?

Not clothes!!! I prefered to buy them myself as I knew what I wanted. The best gift I was given was a huge pack of newborn nappies wipes cotton wool soap the kind of things a baby will use a lot of in the first few weeks especially the nappies. I was so greatful for them and touched they had thought of something we would actually need. My mum made both my girls a blanket and they still have them now oh and little knitted cardigans and hats as i couldnt find them to buy anywhere. Also one other present which I was really pleased with was a baby memorys book I spent a little time each week filling it in and now its a wonderful thing to have to look back on and read.

Baby memorys books are awesome to go back and look at when you're older...to see what your mom put in it. No clothes - i'll keep that in mind for future reference..i can understand wanting to pick out and buy what you like.

The thing is I think clothes are always everyones first though so they buy newborn and before you know it have 10 outfits in newborn and nothing for any other months, clothes are great but maybe buy the next size up 0-3 or even 3-6 that truely comes in handy as they grow so so fast, plus mine were in sleepsuits mostly for the first 6 weeks.

It is warm here in our country so it is common to give and receive baby clothes such as shirt and shorts and other comfortable house clothes. I received quite a number of it and I find it useful because I change my baby's dress quite often (because of the weather). I also like receiving educational toys and DVDs for my little girl. I liked it because it keeps my baby busy and occupied while learning something and lets me finish the things I have to do. I think the Gift Certificates from department stores are also good because you can use that to buy the things your baby really needs.

I always feel kind of bad giving a gift certificate to people as a gift...almost like i cheaped out on the thought and effort i put into the gift. Its kinda neat to see that some people like clothes as baby gifts and others dont.
