Sinus Headaches?

United States
April 4, 2008 7:05pm CST
I have recently started to get over the flu, however I now have these sinus headaches on the left side. The left side of my neck seems stiff and I can't seem to get the muscles to relax. My husband has rubbed my neck, I've taken hot showers, I've used cold wash cloths, taken NyQuil.... Nothing is seeming to work - does anyone have any ideas how to get rid of these awful sinus headaches?

Sorry you're not feeling well. For me personally, I've found that Tylenol Sinus works really well. I also like to use Shower Soothers. The vanilla smells nicer but I don't feel it's as powerful as the original. If you're not able to kick it soon, I'd go to the doctor soon. I've gotten vertigo from sinus infections before and my friend's mom has it now after sinus problems.

what you should do is buy a mist that will loosen the stuff in your nose (i know it sounds gross but go with me on this) i suffer from chronic sinus and other nose issues and i swear by this. you can buy a mix over the counter or buy a can of fine saline mist and blow your nose often, but not too hard and it should clear up shortly!

You can try a neti pot. You put a saline and warm warm solution in it and it cleans out your sinuses. They have them everywhere. Good luck

I have had this happen myself. I think it went away after a few days. I made the mistake of sleeping on my left side and my cold and sinuses all drained into the left side of my neck. I think I fif like you did used cold washrags. I get sinus headaces alot myself. I have had them since I was a teenager. i hope you get to feeling better soon.

as with any swelling.. heat will make it worse. try using a chilled facial mask ( or evenjust a wet washcloth youve tossed into the freezer for a little while) it will help reduce some of the swelling in yer sinuses, thus relieve some of the pain. the only other thing i can suggest, is a nasal decongestant along with the cold, and a pain reliever like tylenol to ease it some. if none of this works, you might want to see a doctor, you might have a sinus infection and need something with a little more kick to it to get rid of it. good luck and i hope you feel better soon

Oh I wish I knew seeing as im suffering one right now they are so painful hence im sat here instead of in bed as I feel like my face will explode if I lay down. Only thing I find works is some ibuprofen a steaming bowl of water to stick my head over for 20 mins, and then to sit up right until the tablets take the pain away, ive done all that now about an hour ago and it is slowly easing off. Id love a miracle cure though that makes it go in minutes as they are so painful.

I know this sounds bad but I am so glad you said this because I had the flu and got the same thing and it keeps coming back. Not to make you feel worse or anything. I did find out however I had an ear infection which was causing the issue to be worse. I would go and see your doctor and have them look at your sinus and ears. I think mine keeps coming back because I waited too long. To get relief I have gotten water on a wash cloth then put it in the microwave to heat it up more and put it across my nose and cheeks. It does help to open them up a bit and take the headache away for a time. For the neck and so you can sleep use a heating pad at night. Oh and don't panic when your eyes start watering a lot. That comes along with it if you have what I have had. I did go and get some over the counter eye drops to just keep my eyes from burning and it seems to help. I hope these things help you feel better.

You need to go to an eye nose and throat doctor and get checked up because you could have a sinus infection and that needs antibotics so do not fool with allthat other stuff but see a doctor who specializes in those sinus problems. with as stiff neck you could have a swollen gland a sure sign of infection and the doctor can help that so see your doctor

Every time I get a cold I do home tests for meningitis and I don't have the symptoms of it. Actually today it's gone. I drank some lemon grass tea and it seemed to make me feel incredibly better. It got rid of my headaches, any nausea I had and the stiff neck! It may have just been the low air pressure from the rain coming through that caused it. I am not sure.

hey i have also been suffering from Sinus headaches..i can understand the pain and discomfort you go through...its tried and tested, the only way to get rid of sinus headaches is take a paracetamol/Crocin/saridon any head ache medicine and try to have get some sleep..sleeping works..trust me it works i believe a sleep over is the only way to get instant relief from a sinus headache...so tak e care and one more thing avoid heat..sun rays..direct sun rays aggrivate sinus headaches
