Today I have to do a presentation on the columbine massacre. it pisses me off because I beleive there are so many things that could have been done to stop this. I read ad watched things on the news and the media tried to justify these killings by saying the teens were picked on and misunderstood* arent we all* sigh the media sucks. but I seriousally do beleive its alot that could have been done that could have stopped this from happening. also I heard the swat team waited over an hour before invading the school *whats up with that*. me personally the library was so open window wise. I think a experienced sniper could have tooken them out with ease. so mylotters do you think this massacre could have been stopped or the death toll decreased?

I've read a book by Brooks Brown(former classmate and a friend of Dylan Klebold)called "No Easy Answers:The Truth Behind Columbine". In the book he talks about both Dylan and Eric. Now there were 2 intresting things that he said. 1-Eric's Parents:Eric Harris was known to get in trouble and his parents were in denial. Brook's mother once complained to the Harris' that Eric was threatening their son on Eric's website. His parents just said that Eric was "scared" of them and didn't do anything about. Plus Mrs. Harris saw fuse on her son's bedroom wall and didn't think much of it. 2-It was realativly a one-sided view,he didn't put too much blame on Dylan.

From a police standpoint the cops couldnt have done more than they did. It was a hostage situation. These kids also had bombs. What get the police killed too? If anyone should take some responsibility it should be the parents. How do you not realize that your kid is that off his rocker and they are plotting this in your home?!?! If the police would have swarmed the school and they would have set a bomb off that would have worked everyone would have blamed the cops then. If they were to use a sniper and killed an innocent person instead then they would have taken grief for that. In police work its a lose/lose situation no matter what they do or dont do there is always blame put on them.

Well, I believe that there were a lot of things that could have stopped some of the deaths at Columbine but I don't know if the police could have done more or not. I feel that the parents of those two boys had to see signs that these boys were not normal teens and I think that they should have taken steps to get them help before it got to this point. I believe that the schools should be able to do more discipline and that some of the problems in schools would be done. Give some authority to the authorities that we give our kids to for 8 or 9 hours a day. Kids think that they can rule the school. Teachers should have noticed that these oys were problems and should have talked with the parents about their concerns. This falls back to the parents being responsible to get help. Also, I believe that some students might have known that these two boys were "picked on" and could have talked with some school authority figures that it needed to be stopped. All in all, it falls back to Dylan and Eric getting help and not taking things into their own hands.
