My 15 year old daughter saved up her money & bought an ipod today. It is the Nano brand. I know nothing about Ipods, but my husbsnd knows a little. He connected it to the internet to start downloading music for it, expecting that it would "open". It didn't, wont open at all. Hubby then did a search & found a site, called Nano features/Guide. Apparently he has to download something called Itunes download first. Is this correct? It is a long download. We thought there should have been a support CD to go with the ipod, but there is only a small instruction book. The Ipod is still charging at the moment. Are we followiung the correct process? My daughter is very upset because she thinks it doesn't work. Here is the site we found: http://www.brothersoft.com/itunes-download-61748.html

I have an iPod shuffle and you do have to have iTunes to upload music to your iPod. You add the music to your library and sync up the iPod to add (or change) your music selection.

After a lot of messing around last night, we figured that we needed this itunes thing. So I downloaded it. It is actually a very clever sceme to get peopl;e to pay for music from the itunes styore. We were able to avoid this, & use music from my hubbys library, which he gets from limewire. We are still a little confused with some processes, but so far my daughter has some music on her ipod. Thanks for your reply.

The iPod froze? Hmm. I have never had that happen. I would go to the Apple website and check out their FAQ and Customer Support page. Sorry I wasn't much help.

I'm not really sure with Nano brands but as far as I know, ipods are ready to insert to your PC and start downloading. You actually don't need to incorporate with iTunes when downloading. You can download whatever music available from your PC to your gadget. If the Nano isn't detected, make sure its properly attached to the computer. Usually some computers doesn't detect USB. Try other PC's if you have. If it still doesn't detect, try contacting the store where you bought it. Bring your device there, and make them try it on their own PC. Unfotunately I'm not using Nano so I couldn't confirm much of how to help you with that. But try my what I've said. Goodluck, I hope I'm helping a little.

Hmmm... this sounds a bit ominous. What our instruction booklet says is: 1. download & install itTunes from www.apple.com/ipod/start Then there are other instructions re. set up asssistant & charging. We can't get the set up assistant to open.
