Do you talk to your neighbors?

When I lived in the city I hardly ever saw my neighbors except when we passed in the hallway. We never really even knew each other except for that car belongs to a woman on the second floor. Now I live in a small town of 200 and everyone knows what everyone else is doing every minute of the day. I still have a hard time with that and I think it comes from my days of not talking to my neighbors. Now if I go outside for any length of time I have people stop and talk to me but I don't do it to others. I will wave of course but don't stop just to talk like they do with me. I suppose I should change and start doing that. I guess I am just wondering how many do talk to their neighbors and how many just greet in passing.

I personally only talk to a few of my neighbors. A few of my neighbors are actually family, so I talk to them, sometimes. I don't always get along with them, so it's not an all the time thing. I rarely talk to the neighbors that I'm not family with, well, most of the time because I hardly ever see them. If I do, I'll say hello, but that's about as far as that goes.

nope we don't. We live in a trailer park and we don't really see our neighbors. If we do see them, it is more a hi type thing. lol I did make a friend here when I was selling Avon, and when I stopped, the friendship was over We speak when we see each other, but she makes no attempt to come by or call, so that was just an Avon friendship because I was giving her better deals than her other friend was.

I talk to our neighbors especially to our landlady. She is very accommodating. She always makes us feel at home and comfortable. She herself likes to share some stories of their family and stuff. Very nice indeed.

To be honest, I don't talk to our neighbors unless it is really really necessary but we do have one neighbor that usually talk to us every now and then. They are nice family, we usually invite them whenever we have an occassion. I just usually say 'hello' then proceed with what I am doing.

i've been in the neighborhood since i was a year old and i rarely talk to our neighbors. but during special occasions, we give them food and cards and stuff like that. and they also do that in return. but the great thing is that we respect each other even if we don't talk that much.

Yes, we talk to our neighbors. Whenever we go out of our flat and come across any of our neighbors, we wish them and talk to them for sometime inquiring about their family and welfare. Also, whenever we are in the balcony and happen to see a neighbor we do the same as above. It is nice to feel that we are in a good neighborhood.

I think its always like that. I used to live in a small town, and everyone digs their noses on everyone's business. They know everything about you and has an opinion on your life whether you ask them about it or not. Now that I'm living in the city, I hardly ever talk to my neighbors and I'm glad they don't talk much with me as well. I don't like people knowing pretty much everything about me. I talk to them in the hallway sometimes, trivial stuff and stuff concerning the apartment.

I live in an apartment. My left neighbour is a Korean. He is friendly and we nod our heads and smile as acknowledgement every time we see each other. My opposite neighbour does not smile back even when I smile at them. They just look straight and pretend that I don't exist.......sigh!!! Cold and unfriendly.

I hardly ever talk to my neighbors anymore...when i was little I would pretty much say hi to anybody and everybody but now that I'm a bit older I don't talk to someone unless they are talking to me so it rarely happens.

Nope, a simple hello and good bye will do. I keep them at arms length and I will tell you why. What if you become good friends with one of them and end up in a horrible spat... it will have an affect on where you live and you will have to see your neighbors house all the time.. what if you end up seeing your neighbor after having the huge spat? Would make things very uncomfortable. If you become good friends with a neighbor and things stay okay, then thats wonderful! But... I just know from experience. My mother was good friends with someone across the street. Then she learned that her friend was starting rumors about her, needless to say, my mother pushed my dad into selling the house! I have also had issues with neighbors too, and I never intentionally did anything wrong! It's just best, IMO to be polite but not to get too close.

I live in the country too and I do talk to my neighbors. We live on a quiet street by the forest, with about 7 houses. My next door neighbor is almost 90 and and still drives, I always take the time to chat when we see each other. My neighbor down the street does our snow removal and ha even given us some wood when we have run out , He says he likes to' damsel in distress '( ha ha ha ) I live in a very ethnic town, with European descent ( Rawdon , Québec) I used to live in the city and always made a point in getting to know my neighbors. It is nice to have a neighbor to talk to when you need a friend. Flamenca

We live on base in New Jersey. We have lived in this house for 2 and a half years now. I think we have spoken to the people that live in the house attached to ours once or twice. The people that live in the house next door on the other side; we say hello to them when we see them out but don't have any real relationship with them. I think we have spoken to the guy that lives across the street the most. He is nice enough but we aren't friends or anything. People don't really come out of their houses much on our street it seems. Most of the friends we have here don't live on base.

Well I just recently moved into a new neighborhood this past month, so I haven't really talked to my neighbors. I mean I have met them, because they were kind enough to come by and introduce themselves to me and my husband. It was quite nice of them to do so. Since I live on a military base because my husband is still doing active duty with the army, we don't always see to many of our neighbors due to the fact that he is usually working and when he's not we're just sitting at home. But it might be because all our neighbors are in the military as well and are probably working when we decide to leave the house to do anything. But there are a few times but its just a quick Hi and how are you doing.
