A Snake....OH MY!!!!

Every morning when I get up I go outside and walk to the end of the driveway to get the newspaper. Well, I did that this morning as well and on my way back to the house I see a snake in the flower garden. I stopped, gasped for air and turn and walked the other way to get inside the house. I had passed right by this snake on the way to get the paper but I had never noticed it. That snake could have bitten me, but thank God it didn't. I'm so scared and paranoid right now. I have all of the doors and windows closed tightly. I'm very afraid of snakes. It looked like a garden snake. I had called my uncle to come over to kill it but by the time he came it was gone. But when my dad gets off of work I will have him look through the flower garden and around the house to see if he can find it. I'm not going back outside until they find and kill this snake. Me and my daughter couldn't go outside today because of that. Do any of you know what I can use or put around the house to keep away snakes? My sister told me to put mothballs around the house.
