Our house is infested by rats....

We live in a 2 story house with an attic, and as all homes it is usually infested by rodents. Big rats live in and around our house and we tried everything to kill these vermins to no avail. We tried using rat poison. This worked, however our chickens ate the dead rats and they died too. So we tried using traps (steel traps) that capture the rats alive. So far we have already captured 5 fat rats. However these rats tend to be very intelligent to the point that we have to move the traps around the house as they seem to learn to stay away from the trap that caught their friends. I think its just a matter of time where the traps wont work anymore and we will once again be having uncontrollable rats in and around the house. Can anyone help me solve my predicament???

You need to breed cats. They will guard your house against rats. Hope this one helps.

I noticed cats usually go out of the house at night. But the rodents(rats) are really active at night, so how would it work. How would the cats catch the rats when they are away. As the saying goes, "when the cat is away the mouse will play"....

yes I can solve it for you! I used to raise Ferrets. These are small animals related to weasels and mink. They are a natural enemy of rats and if you had one in yor house the rats would leave immediately. all it takes to rid a house of rats is to have a ferret in the house. Let me know how it turns out. Thanks

Thanks for the tip in solving my rat problem... Though I doubt it if there are ferrets in the Philippines. Are they not endangered? Are they good house pets? How do you feed it???

You can pick up a "live" haveaheart trap at Lowes and other hardware stores to catch the rats, just be sure to release them @ least 3 miles from where they where caught.

ferret and friend - ferrets make good pets and a good way to rid the house of rodents
Ferrets are good house pets, and playful too. They will eat cat food, bread and milk, and they love a live mouse or rat.

You can kill them with soda pop. Not nice but neither is the disease risk you are running by having them around. http://www.ehow.com/how_2263302_soft-drinks-kill-mice-rats.html
