Can you guys clue me in on what's bad about these kinds of drinks?? My 15 year old wants to drink them but I am not sure it's such a good idea!! I know he says that lots of his friends drink them all the time - at least most of the other athlete's that he hangs out with. So anything you guys can tell me about these would be great so that way I can make an informed decision about these!!Thanx in advance and have a Fantastic Friday!!!

There's tons of caffeine, sugar and guarana [sp?] in them. When I was 15 [which was 2 years ago xD] my friends drank them all the time, too. I tried some, but I thought they tasted disgusting. They do give you energy, but only for a short time, and you feel really tired or get a headache after.

So it's like they bring you up with energy and then totally dump you down - to where you are so tired and have a headache!!! Guess that shouldn't be too surprising considering what I have learned about them from you guys so far!!! Yep think I will seriously limit his ability to drink them - at least only 1 every so often!!! Sure seems like we really have to be careful with what we put into our bodies!!

they have alot of caffein in them, sugar and some have hoddia.which isn't good for you(hoddia). It causes you to shake alot and diareia. But I think for the most part there alright in moderation. If he had one every once in a while it would be alright.Just think of it like this it's like our cup or two of coffee in the morning. good luck

Wow Hoodia - now that I definitely haven't heard of before now!!! And shaking sure doesn't sound like something that I would want to have happen - that would be scary!! And I agree - that 1 every once in a while should be ok!!

To be honest I would now be very wary of any of the so called energy drinks on the market now. when they first came onto the market I found myself hooked on Red Bull and would drink anything up to a dozen cans in a day. Strangely enough, I couldn't figure out why I wasn't sleeping at night and did't understand why I was so hyper all the time I realised after a while they they were full of chemicals and addatives, some of which I was allergic to, but they made me feel good so I continued to drink them. Eventually a friend of mine got me to stop drinking them, I was sick and ill from drinking too many energy drinks. I would strongly urge you to think carefully about these drinks, the chemical contents and the addatives and colours.

Wow - that sure sounds scary!!! Hopefully things are all well with you now - especially considering the amount of them you were consuming!!! I am like you - I had no idea of the amount of chemicals in these drinks!!! You are so right - I will definitely only allow my teenager to have 1 a week - I don't see the need for anymore than that - although I have a feeling he will see things differently - most teenagers these days do!! But at least he's always willing to sit down and discuss things with me - so he's open to how we feel about things.

Due to the high level of caffeine, sugar and energy blend, you aren't supposed to have more than 2 a day (some will allow 3, but its a risk). Consuming too much caffeine over a period of time can cause twitching, headaches, insomnia. People with heart problems and dangerous levels of blood pressure shouldn't have too much either as the B complex, caffeine, basically the metabolic and cardiovascular boosts can strain the system. Co-workers complained about this when they had more than one Red Bull. They felt the energy, but once they had a good amount of it, they felt hyper effects on metabolism and heart pumping. To see some of the worst effects of consuming too much Red Bull, see what happened in France when a teen drank 4 Red Bulls and went to play basketball http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/5753.php Ironically, the energy drinks have B vitamins which doesn't seem to make it into many people's diets. B vitamins are good for blood flow(part of the energy solution) and there are some benefits to the nervous system(another part). In actuality, a person could have half of a Red Bull or half of a Monster(as its bigger in size usually) and they'll feel enough effects from it. If up to it, find 7up or ginger ale and mix that with half of the energy drink. The juice versions of energy drinks may mitigate some of the negative effects. The main point is to not drink these things excessively. You should also watch for high-grade energy drinks (these usually say no more than 2 per day). On experience, NOS, No-Name, AMP are all higher grades of energy drink. Consume carefully.

Wow - talk about someone who sure knows a lot!!!! Thanks so much for all of this information - it totally makes me think that a can every week wouldn't be bad - but no more than that!!! I never realized that there were so many different things in these energy drinks!!! I am going to let my son read what everyone has written here so that he too - can educate himself on what's good and or bad about these things - and maybe he can actually get some of his friends to stop downing these things. He told me last night - that one of his friends drinks 3 a day!!!! I was shocked - and he said that his friends parent's keep a stock of them in their garage!!! So you bet I will keep an eye on my son when he plans to hang out with this friend!! As well as I plan on speaking to this friend's parents to let them know upfront that what may be ok to them for their son - is definitely not ok by me!!!!!
