Autism is not contagious nor contractable, it is a behaviorial disorder (spectrum) which affects those with symptoms in different ways. Some autistics can function reasonably well without much help, others are crippled by it to the point that they cannot function and cannot interact in normal ways with other people. Some autistics are also very good at certain things, art, music, chess, math, etc. Unlike many out there, I do not believe that everybody who is labeled with it has it, and there are ways to deal with/combat symptoms including managing things such as routine, diet and exercise, sensory experiences, etc. People can be sensitive to changes in almost anything.

Some actually believe that having their child vaccinated is the reason why their child has Autism signs.

autism is not fatal nor an std, its not contagious, you dont' contract it, it cannot be cured at the moment. from the http://www.autism-society.org/site/PageServer?pagename=about_home Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. Autism is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a "spectrum disorder" that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. There is no known single cause for autism, but increased awareness and funding can help families today.

its most often diagnosed between the ages of 1 and 3, it affects you for life. a sprectrum disorder that it comes in a bunch of different levels of intensity, it can be minor and only affect you a lil bit or it can be major and affect everything in your life. .. i posted the link to the autism awareness site, if you want more information, i suggest you go there..

As others have mentioned, it is not a killer disease nor is it caused by an STD. Experts don't know what really causes it, but it's probably genetic. It's basically a disorder where the brain, nervous system, and senses may be mis-wired. With therapy, many autistic people can live a fairly normal life with autism. Some even make great contributions to society, too.

No, it's not epilepsy. I'm pretty sure it occurs in most countries except they might not recognize it as autism. Before it was really classified as it's own disorder, many with autism were called things like "retarded" or "mute". And, because there was no therapy, they never developed to their full potential.

It is not contagious! The others said it and I agree! The scientists do not kow why, something to do with genes and development of the child! The child has difficulty communicating! There is no immunization for it, just preventing it from becoming much worse through early intervention! So you can ask your doctor to check your child/baby if you suspect any delays in development! It is a "new" disorder only because it was not well-known before the last century and it has a name now!

i don't think such disorder was in existence before, though they said it affects child of 3 years and no cure, i pray that none of my children doesn't contract it. it is similar to aids that doesn't have cure.

It is like epilepsy in that it is not contagious! There is no cure but there is treatment with therapies that help the child to learn! It is like a learning disorder! Not about germs! Autistic people can be of any age, it should be diagnosed by the third year but it can be discovered at any age!
