I feel the UN is probably a good thing, but to the extent that the UN wants to vote and enforce its directives on other nations, I think it is going too far. How do you feel about the UN? Should the nations maintain their sovereignty and do what they think best even if the UN doesn't agree?

The United Nations is a failure, they can't even enforce regulations restrictions on countries. They have let Darfur continue with no end in site. They want to snap their collective fingers and watch the worlds problems be solved. Same with any other organization that may take it's place in the future. Countries do not fear the United Nations, they laugh at it just like Iran does.

The UN has indeed been ineffective in solving the world's problems. I know the Iraq war is an unpopular war, but I was proud that Pres. Bush took the initiative to insure that the UN resolutions concerning the WMD's was really carried out. It would have been better to have done it sooner instead of setting and resetting dates, making idle threats, in my opinion. But I think it was clear leading up to the war that no one else was going to do anything about it.

Weren't the UN started right after WWII, so the same thing that happened in Germany wouldn't happen again in any other countries? If so, that plan didn't go so well with the genocides in other countries happening after WWII.

It probably started out as a good idea after WWII but the organization is only as good as the commitment of its members and I guess many of the members of the UN haven't been very committed to world peace and human rights.
