I know the Chinese people to be extremely hardworking. They are generous and pious people. However, I am not in favor of the Chinese government destroying the cultural heritage and identity of Tibet. Tibetans are generally peace loving people who only want their independence so I hope china would give it to them.

You are referring to that 700-years-ago conquest by a Mongol right? That is when Tibet became a Chinese province... But before that conquest, Tibet already has a government separate from that of Imperial China.

yeah...and your point being? A stack of places before already had their own governments separate from those of the countries that conquered them.

Well about the Tibiet issue what i know is Tibet has not got a proper border with China and china is indirectly controlling the Tibet. China says Tibet is a part of it and Dalai Lama is a leader of Tibet and they want freedom from China...

Thank you for your respond.China is a great country, but for one third world country there are many probloms to solve.China is the holder of 2008 Olympic Games, and I think there is always someone who dosen't want a third world country to hold it...

Well that may be one of the cause but what about the Tibet issue. I think its high time that Tibet should be set free by China. What would you say?

You do realise that the Dalai Lama actually doesn't want independence. China is allowed to control Tibet, just like it controls any of its other provinces because Tibet is IN China.

I don't think Americans dislike the Chinese. If anything, I think Americans expect Chinese to be smarter, more polite and more hard working than we are. My girlfriend is Chinese and she certainly seems that way. She gets the highest grade in her class on a test, but is upset because she only got 90 percent instead of 100 percent or the questions right. I also think most Americans don't really understand the Tibetan issue. They think China invaded Tibet in the 1950s and conquered it and don't realize that Tibet has been part of China since the Mongols made it part of their empire more than 700 years go and that most of these troubles today seem to stem from British and American interference in the area decades ago. I personally was embarrassed by the way the Olympic torch run was handled in Britain and France and even in San Francisco. I did think it was really funny in San Fransisco to see white people trying to "educate" Chinese people about Tibet. To me, that is the most obvious thing about the Tibetan controversy. All the people I see shouting "Free Tibet" are white people who don't live there. When I see Asians discussing it, they're usually pro-China. So, as a white person who lives in America, I think my opinion matters much less than yours on this issue.

Thank you. I'm actually a member of the American media. I'm the managing editor for five newspapers in America and I have issues with the way the television news covers things in this country. The emphasis, even for the daily print newspapers, has moved away from training reporters to analyze and understand an issue before they write about it, to just gathering information as fast as possible and getting it onto the Internet or television before someone else beats them to it. And even then, they're normally told to make it short and dumb it down so that even the simplest minds can understand it. Speed and emotional content is more important that accuracy and analysis. The result is television news that takes 30 seconds to say "Tibetans want to be free. Bad Chinese kill Tibetans. We got the story first. Yay! We're number 1! We're number 1!" They even do this with stories about the U.S.

...Wow...and wow...I have never thought I can communicate with such an amazing American man.Sorry,my English is not very good and I wish my point is not so childish to you.I get your point and I agree with you.America is a big country,it must be difficult for a media to have lots of readers or viewers, but I still wish this kind of situation can have an improvement. I hope that other Americans are wise like you.Thank you for your hearty respond.(*^_^*)

you are so understanding.I'm glad to hear that there are still Americans who can evaluate Dalai issues in an impersonal way.I heard there are so many foreign medias that reported Dalai issues in an untruthful way,so I'm worried.Thank you very much.

yes, we know the Dalai issue, the Tibet issue as well as the Sudan issue. i am not against china because i have no reason to, its just that they were scrutinized by other country by the way they suppressed any rebellion against the government. and Tibet's call for liberation. i cannot say for sure because i am not a citizen of China but how do you feel about the media lockdown and the internet firewall by your country? hihi

I think chinese people is friendly.they do much work to prepare the Olympic games and want every people and the athlete have a nice memory of the trip to China. I absolutely surport China. I have started a discussion that want every people from other country listen the heart of the Chinese people.I am so sad that why so many other people can not try to understand China deeply. We give Tibet special power than anyother province.we need peace not the force.Dalai choose 2008 to start the issue, what's his design? It is easy to see his ambition.they begin rebellion then do you think who will hurt in the issue?Only the people. China has long histroy and it is one of the immemorial country in the world.though China only tge third world country in the world, but we are not hehindhand than other people think. We are friendly and we need surport from the people all over the world.

I think chinese people are very, extremely intelligente because they have habilities that other people don´t have. They are very nice, poplite, responsible and have the same physical characteristics ( the type of eyes, colour of the hair mainly ). In high school I´ve chinese partners, they are very nice women.
