Hi guys! Do you have problems with your computer?? From hardware to software? If you do, just ask me a question and I will try to answer it the best that I can. I just want to share my knowledge and help people out there with computers.

How about this: when I boot my computer, I see a menu to choose the OS to use. Both choices are WinXP. But I only have one XP installation so whichever I choose, the same XP is run. How do I stop seeing the menu?

You may edit the boot.ini file in windows. Your boot.ini file might look something like this: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(5)\WINDOWS="JRB Windowsl" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect The part saying "multi..." that is the part the lets you choose which OS to boot. You need to delete the other line so you will only have one OS of choice.

Thanks for replying. I tried to follow your suggestion, but I only have one OS in my boot.ini file! Here's the content of my boot.ini file: [boot loader] redirect=useBiosSettings redirectbaudrate= timeout=20 default= [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect So what do I do now?

You need to fix your MBR or Master Boot Record. You can do so by putting in your windows xp installer and booting into the recovery console, there you can type in fixmbr and it will fix your boot record. Then restart your PC

hi jarves! you're so nice to be saying that! i will definitely go to you if i encounter problems again with my computer. but i hope i won't. its too much of a hassle to have computer problems. but i'm glad there's someone here who would be willing to help!
