I am thinking of givin my kids an allowence every week to help them learn the "value" of a dollar. Just wondering what is enuff without being too much. Do you give your kids an allowence and if so, how much?

My parents gave us an allowance. My husbands parents didn't. So far we haven't done that with our children but I think we need to have the discussion and see if we should. I think we should...

I got $5.00 a week growing up....I am thinking of maybe giving them 10.00 a week, IF all chores are completed. Thanks for replying,

I started with a nickel a day and was up to $20 a week when I was in High School. But I had to buy my own lunches.

My children do not get an allowance but if i ask them to do extra stuff (not family related chores) i do pay them.

We don't give my son an allowance. He gets rewards though for doing what we ask. We prefer to work on the idea that if he makes life easy by listening, we do fun things with him.

Thats a good idea too. They just ask for some much. I want to be able to say, "If you can pay for it, you can have it". lol Thanks for replying.

i don't have a job yet but at university, everything is expensive. My mom gives me 35$ per month. It's not alot so I try to eat from home when I can or bring a snack to school. Somtimes I have school from 9am to 7pm and it's very tiring. A meal doesn't cost 3-4$ like it used to be..it's not 6-8$ lol. If you want your children to understand the value of a dollar, they should have a part time job. Working hard to earn monney isn't easy and that's how i learned. If i have children, I would tell them to have a summer job and hopefully they will be less spoiled and use monney wisely.
