Is Polygamy A Religion?

I really hope not, because it's not only unjustified it's wrong. Marrying girls of age 12 and 13 and such is a crime, it's a statutory rape. It's also considered something a pedifile would do. So is this an actual religion? I hear it is and other times I hear it's not. I really hope it's not.

I have a couple of things to say....First off NO its NOT a religion HOWEVER some religions do support it..Secondly Polygamy IS NOT about pedophilia, marrying children and so on..THOSE PPL IMO live in a world all their own....Polygamy is simply a husband having more than one wife at the same time..Polyandry is when a woman has more than one husband at the same time..Polyamory is when a person (male or female) has more than one mate at a time...I'm in a Polyamorous relationship..I have a husband BUT I also have a boyfriend...Dont mistake this however for "sleeping around" with whomever...thats not the case at all..I'm in relationships with both of these men, long term..

Well that's you. I appreciate your honesty, but I don't agree with having a husband and a boyfriend. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, I believe one man and one woman, but what you do is your choice, I just don't agree with it. To me it seems like cheating, even if it's not intended to be that way.

It would be cheating if they didnt know about each other but they do, they've spoken on the phone, my husband has taken me to see him and so on... Granted its not for everyone by any means but for us it works and has for 10yrs now...

As others have pointed out what you are opposed to is pedophilia not polygamy. The two are not mutually inclusive. Polygamy does not have anything to do with pedophilia, and the sooner people realize that the better. Nothing is inherently wrong with polygamy or polyamory as long as we are talking consenting adults. In fact there is considerable scriptural support for the practice within the bible and many other religious texts. Why do you care if it is a religious practice or not, just because some believe it is does not have to change what you believe.

Marrying anyone as young as 13 is wrong. I wonder if there would be this much news coverage if All the wives were way over 18? Polygamy isn't a religion but it was part of some religions.I think as long as all the parties are 18 or over and no one is held against their will, it shouldn't be illegal. But in most cases there is mind control and under age wives.

Polygamy is a practice - not a religion. Many religions practice it, but it can also be secular, if society decided to make it so. However, I think you misunderstand what polygamy is. It is merely a marriage between more than two people. The age of the participants is not always as young as you mentioned. I imagine this was brought up because of that Texas religious sect that got busted for forcing their kids to get married and have children at incredibly young ages? It's your typical coo-coo sect of religious nutters who hide behind religion for their messed up practices. Typically polygamy wouldn't be such a bad thing, but they made it look bad because of how they practiced it. Currently polygamy is illegal. Marriage for 13 year olds, however, is legal in some states, but only if the parents give permission, and the spouses-to-be are within a certain age range.

you know even though i dont agree with the parctice of polygamy you would think they would move to a state where it would legal for these kids to marry with parents permission!

The FLDS took this to the extreme. I read a quote somewhere that the dont believe that there is an age for marriage. That was disturbing to me. Polygamy is not a religion but a lifestyle. There are or have been religions that practiced it but many do not. There was a time that there was a need for polygamy due to there being more women then men. Men provided and women nutured and this was how it was, there was no way for a woman to support herself. I couldnt imagine living like that but I assume if there were not a choice we might think differently. The FLDS is a cult and not a religion in my opinion. Women are brainwashed to be abused and Men are brainwashed to be preditors. This is not gods way.

polygamy is just having more than one wife, not marrying minors.

well I think in certain religions you are allowd to have about 4 wives.. I will not mention which religion in case I offend someone. I think it is wrong too, because you can only love one person truly.. How can you love a woman then sleep with another woman right infront of her eyes...
