Finally, Maxie gets a visit to the vet

I was really curious to find out if Maxie, the stray that I took in a few days ago, had any health issues. He seems to eat and crap well. So I took him to the vet today. The vet guessed that Maxie is anywhere from a year to a year and a half old and stated that Maxie also needs to be neutered. In the meantime, the cat got a blood test (they took a LOT of blood!!!) and was tested for Feline Leukemia. I bought in a stool sample as well. Until I hear about the results of those tests, I am to keep Maxie separated from the other cats, Columbus, Waffles and Mimi. The vet visit cost me 109 dollars, and if the tests go well, I will have to spend another dollars to have Maxie neutered. But right now, the vet expenses don't worry me as much as the results of those tests. What if they don't turn out well?

Keep thinking postivie that the tests will come out ok. If she tests negative for feline luekmia make sure to get him vaccinated for it! Both of my kittes were vaccinated for it. I really hope everything turns out ok it was so heartwarming of you to take in this stray. My mother in law took in a stray that is now her baby! Let us know what the vet finds out.

Well, Maxie tested negative for feline leukemia and worms. His blood is fine. He just needs to be spayed. There goes 200 dollars, but hey, he'll be better for it.

I always figure if they eat and crap well they're okay. If a cat doesn't eat there is something wrong. As for the FL they have ways to treat it. I wouldn't really worry about the results. It's always the kind of thing that you worry yourself sick about a test and then it turns out fine. It reminds me of when I had to take my Maine Koon cat into the vet on an emergency basis. It took my last $105 for his infection but it was worth every penny. Don't worry about Maxie, I'll be praying that his tests come out fine. You might check with your local humane society to see if they have coupons for money off on the neutering...especially since he was a stray.
