tree that was hit by lightening

This happened many years ago, but someone had mentioned about some people getting hit by lightening and though I didn't know people who got hit, my tree did years ago.. With some quick thinking we went and bought some tree tar, but for about 2-3 years, we thought we had lost it..I am glad we didn't, because at the time, it was a great shade for our home. Have you had any of your trees hit by lightening? Were you able to save them?
