I have one that is always reading and it can be a struggle to get her to put the book down... wednesday it was while grocery shopping that I had to tell her to put the book away - it is too dangerous to walk around the store while reading - you are going to bump into something or some one. I am currently teaching my youngest to read, it is not coming very easily for her... but she sure loves stories being read to her.

Sometimes, I'm better about that than others. I used to take my daughter to the library every week and cover at least 7 books. I've fallen away from that, but plan to take it up again in the summer. I love reading with her. I will be really sad if my daughter gets stuck in video game world. I know they are tools through which a child can learn, but I really want her to want to learn from me.

Well, I dunno ersmommy, I am still waiting for a baby. When I was a kid, I was a voracious reader. Started at age eight, actually. I do notice that the modern whiz kids have no sense of language and have little love for reading. Most of the time, they are stuck in front of TV, computer, or some game.

I still read to my youngest, even though he is an excellent reader. He catches me when I go off on a tangent while reading a story, such as when the hero is running down the hall and then decides he really has to go to the bathroom (hey! Everyone, including heroes, have to go sometime!).

My son reads like crazy at school, so I don't really push the reading at home at night. He is already at double his reading goal for the quarter and there are still like 2 weeks left in the quarter. He does get a story or two read to him every night and he will sometimes read a chapter or two.

we don't have a set time for my kids to read, but when they say they are bored, I tell them to go get a book. They usually do. and then they tell me about it.
