Mountains and lakes or beaches and sea, which do you prefer?

Snowdon - Taken on Llanberis Pass Friday 25th April in the afternoon. The weather was dreadful but the mist and cloud shrouded the peak.
April 27, 2008 1:03pm CST
My partner and I have just got back from a weekend in the Snowdonia National Park. We went camping for the weekend so my partner could do his*mountain goat* impersonation up Snowdon and the surrounding mountains in Wales here in the UK. I had never been to Wales or Snowdon so I was thrilled to see how wonderful the area was and the mountains and valleys. Up to now I have always been a beach and sea person but the weekend has made me think again. I have posted a picture taken over the weekend, even in the rain and mist the mountain looks wonderful. So which do you prefer? The mountains and lakes or the beach and the sea?

That is a very tough question, because I love both. I live amongst the mountains in Northwest Virginia. There aren't a whole lot of lakes where I live, but there are some just a few miles away. I live at the foot of the Massunutten Mountain. I absolutely love hiking and fishing and swimming in the river. I also love the beach. We go to Myrtle Beach South Carolina almost every year. My aunt has a beach house down there. I absolutely love going to the beach. I really enjoy riding the waves and eating the seafood. There are so many attractions and things are almost always fun. As much as i love the ocean and beach, I could not live any where else but amongst the mountains. Both have aspects that I like alot.

i like the mountains and the lakes more than the beaches and the seas.. well may be because i like the fresh water a lot.but still the mountains and the valleys and the lakes give me a lot of peace and refresh .. it may also be due to the fact that i live near the seas and long to go to the mountains.

I would love to visit where you took that picture. It looks and sounds beautiful. I've never been big on the beach or the sea. I love the mountains with rivers and lakes with them. To me they just always seemed so serene and welcoming where as the beach and sea seemed turbulent and wild. I would love to live in the mountains or at least the foot hills of them. Instead I live in Florida near a beach . I don't like it one bit but moving to another state isn't going to be happening any time soon that is for sure. I guess for now I'll just have to keep on dreaming, which thankfully is free to do

You're quite welcome and I can imagine you were. I know if I was in a similar type of area I'd have taken a bunch as well. Nature does offer us some incredible images to view.

I am much more drawn to mountains and streams than I am to beaches and seascapes. I feel so much more alive when hiking in the mountains or listening to a bubbling brook in the woods... the solitude is heavenly.

The peace and quiet was lovely, it was good just listening to birdsong even though the weather wasn't that great.

Tranquil misty mountains, bird song and cool breezes off the lake or the sound of gulls as waves wash up gently on the shore. Hiking along mountain trails or beachcoming in the sun. I'll take both, any where, any time. So long as I have it to myself, me and a special friend.

Funny you mention mountain goat. I am a Capricorn and I was born in the Chinese year of the goat so of course I love, love the mountains.

LOL - thanks for the comment on the photograph hun. I call my partner the mountain goat as he is so keen on the mountains. I am still a bit torn between the two though, and quite fancy spending a little time on the beach.

Beaches and sea! Beaches and sea ! LOL But I also really enjoy a nice hike up a mountain and the beauty I can find there. I would love to be able to combine both, that would be just wonderful. But I really need the smell of sand and salt water, the walking in the wet sand with the waves crashing at my feet, the... you get the idea :):)

I would think I prefer mountains and lakes for their serenity. However, I would rather go to the beaches and sea as it is safer as there are more company. Mountains and lakes gives me the creepy lonely feeling.

LOL I must admit the mountains are very quiet and serene while the beaches are usually more crowded and loud.

I prefer lakes and mountains. I am a nature lover and I prefer the nature trips and those in provinces and remote areas. Hiking is also what I like doing. Nature gives you such a different kind of comfort that noone can give you.

I like the mountains and the ocean, which makes living in Seattle just perfect for me. I'm really only happy when I'm living near large bodies of water, because they are very calming to me. The mountains, though, take my breath away! :)

I'm definitely a beaches and sea person. I'm a Pisces which are fish. I just have always loved the water and calmness of laying on a beach and hearing the waves. It's just so beautiful. I've been to the mountains too, but it's far too cold for me. They are very beautiful though. I have many pictures from a trip to Colorado.

We have a cottage in the mountains. It is beautifulup there. Still I prefere the sea. I love to swim. The lakes are too cold for me. I also think the sea gives me a calm that I never find in the mountains.

Both! To me its comparing apples and oranges. I love them both. The mountains and mountain air are majestic and the sea air and crashing waves remind me of my vulnerability. They are both wonderful atmospheres to clear your mind, recharge, refresh and start again. I find them both energizing and fun. I'd love to see the mountains in your area. I've heard they are beautiful!

I prefer to go to the mountains or even better forested areas with pine trees. I like the fresh air of the mountains. The oceans are okay too but I like the forests better.

I prefer mountains and lakes over beaches and sea. I really don't like the sun that's why when I'm at the beach, I usually swim at night. So, Lakes can get covered by the trees that grow on the mountains so I can swim even when there's sun. And I also like freshwater better than salt water cause saltwater hurts my eyes.
