I am in a crisis here....I have a wisdom tooth that is very very infected and needs to be pulled out. The tooth is located in an area and is such that my regular dentist cannot pull it out, so I had to be referred to a specialist. I have an appointment later in the week to do this. I called the office today to inquire as to how much it would cost to have this done. I thought, at most it would 300 or 400 dollars....not so....she told me that depending on what tooth it is, it will cost between 900 and 2000 dollars...that's not a typo!! nine hundred or two thousand dolllars!!! I think this is outrageous....to make matters worse, I am only young and living on my own with a low paying job supporting myself and paying all my own bills and I have no insurance....my question is, does anyone know of any social programs or Gov rebates or assistance of any kind that can help me with this?? I am in Canada and I have called a few numbers and no one seems to know if there is anything available. I even called Social services and they said they didn't know...you think they would, they are impossible to communicate with....any information you can provide me with is greatly appreciated!

Hello There. Yes, you are right. That is very costly. I have a wisdom tooth as well that needs to be eradicated. It is somewhat costly but still affordable for me. Did you try to check other specialist or dentist? Maybe they can give you discount or so. Sorry I can't be more help here. I hope you will find a way soon.

I did try to find another specialist, but as it turns out, he's the only game in town! I live in a very small city and there is not whole lot here....I am going to try and strike a deal with him...maybe he has a heart and will give a deal of some sort!

Yes, that is right. Talk to your specialist. I think that is the only way to do it. Happy MylottinG! Cheers!

I totally understand how you feel, a few years back I had to get all four of my wisdom teeth ripped out by a specialist, it cost me $2000. I was devestated spending that much money, I used my tax return money to pay for it. Are you able to apply for a medical loan. I am not sure what is available in your country. But here in Australia we are able to get medical loans. Unfortunately I don't think there is any governmnet assistance to help with wisdom teeth. It is alot of money I know. Or are family members able to lend you some of the money and then you can pay them back slowly?

Thank you for your response....I dont think there are any medical loans I can get here in Canada, I have never heard of it, but I guess it cant hurt to look into it! I could try to ask family for assistance, but some of them have hit hard times too and I I dont think I could bare to ask...
