Can anyone help me here? Can you please suggest me the best anti virus to use? I will prefer if its the free one. And I need a cookie cleaner to and anti spyware software. Crusing through all the PTC and GPI sites, makes my laptop crawls with lots of virus etc. Thanks.

well I suggest for you to use AVAST HOME Edition for your anti virus, its free you just need to register to get your free license key. For your spyware I suggest spybot search and destroy its good one for blocking unknown registry entry and tracking and removing spyware, malware from your computer. Another is spywareblaster also a free software. Also Install yahoo CA antispy for your browser . All the software that I mentioned is free. Enjoy.

I suggest avira antivir, it has a free version, fast and doesn't consume as much resources as other antivirus programs.

I am glad to see so many post that are for Avast. I just bought a new laptop and it has norton. I am removing Norton and I will use Avast. I have it on a couple other computers. Never had spyware unless it is with Avast. I will check on this.

As many others have suggested - Grisofts AVG free is probably the best FREE antivirus. Avast also has a good free antivirus software. I'm not too sure about the others.

I have one very good site for you, hcpoirot! Go to www.cnet.com and register for a free account. There you will have access to many types of freeware downloads. I am now using AVG Anti-virus(free edition), and Adaware Anti-spy(also free). Have a great day!

I am using the AVAST anti virus from more than an year and i hardly found any problem of the virus in my laptop and at the same time i am using the SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY for the spy and it is really working for me without effecting the speed of my laptop as it doesn't take much RAM even as compared to the other one i used. So even now avast is having the new version 4.8 and that is the best and detect all the virus threats keeping your system away from any sort of virus.Make sure the anti virus is updated for the better results and even main advantage is that it automatically get updated every time you are connected to the internet and the new versions and the data bases are installed to keep the program up to date so both are the best to use together for the trojans and the spy.

These days you can't affor to run your PC without a good antivirus. Personally I prefer paid antiviruses becasue they provide with up to date protection with robust security engine. I prefer ESET NOD32 becasue it has powerful heuristic engine combined with very user friendly interface.

I've been using AVG (lavasoft.com) for six months after my Norton subscription ran out. It's great, doesn't slow down my computer and is excellent protection! I also use Spyware Blaster, Spybot Search & Destroy and AdAware. They're all free, except I think maybe AdAware is charging now. I haven't gotten a virus or anything of the sort for years with those last 3 things, and the AVG is used by many of my friends who could afford to buy antivirus software but prefer AVG. AVG gets the cookies and so does Spybot. You could just empty your temporary files if cookies are your problem.
