I dont think Shrek is ugly, because he has inner beauty, he might not be the best looking thing on the outside,but he is helps his friends in anyway he can,and he always does whats right,so when it comes to heart,which he has a lot of,then he is far from ugly.

Maybe shrek'appearance is ugly ,on the contrast ,he has a inner beauty that a lot of others don not have. i agree with what hellcowboy have said and i like this role very much.
