If i build my own computer it will not come with its own operating system. I recently looked to see what windows vista OS was selling for. Some of them are only 150$ , but if you want premium you looking at least 200$ for it. What would you do?

Why wont you try XP instead I guest they would be selling like hot cakes this days because of the "end-of-life" thing, beside not all programs are compatible to vista anyway.

I'm running XP on this computer i have right now. What programs don't run with Vista? I know this was a problem before , but i think its been all fixed. Why wouldn't i run vista? It seems like a good OS now , since they have got most of the bugs worked out. If they are going to stop producing XP in july i think so they are wanting people to switch to Vista.

If your using regular programs like MS office, internet browser and your PC has the power then you wont have any problem with vista. If you're into games, programming, or you have customize program or have relative old peripherals chases are your drivers for it are not yet updated.

You know, the Vista Home Premium is probably good enough for your needs. And as someone already said, you really should check out Ubutu 8.04 - it's really nice! I've installed it on my desktop and my laptop. It can co-exist with Windows and installation of a Linux OS has never been easier!

i think you must choose OS that suitable for your needs. you can consider about open source software too. Linux also great OS that capable to do many task like windows did.
