How do I treat an ear infection at home?

My husband and I don't have health insurance because his employer doesn't offer it, nor does mine. We make too much money to qualify for medicaid, but too little to get insurance ourselves since with my health history it costs $1700 a month just to cover me... trust me, I've tried everything! Our thought on life is to stay healthy and it work well for my husband. He is 23, almost 24 and has never never been sick for as long as we've been together. As far as I'm concerned, I'm practically sick every other day with an ear infection. When I did have health insurance, I went in a lot for my ear infections, but they would not treat it as a chronic condition unless I had more than 10 a year. So I would just get them treated as I got them. Now I have a bad ear infection in my right ear. I usually have them in my left ear and this is only the second time I've had one in my right ear. Now that I don't have health insurance, I have enough ear infections to be diagnosed with a chronic condition. Go figure. Anyway, it's caused by swimmer's ear. Every time I take a bath I get a qtip and wick the water from my ear. It's not usually safe to use qtips in your ears to get wax out, but it's fine for water since you're just wicking and not scraping. Anyway this last time I must not have done a good enough job because now I have an ear infection. It's been two days and it's not getting any better. Any suggestions on treatment?

I always heard pouring a little peroxide into your ears after swimming or getting water in them helps. It removes the water and cleans out your ears. Give it a try.
