I had my little girl to the Dr. today. She woke up with a very high fever and was burning up from the chills. The Dr. said, that she needs to rest for the rest of the week. But my concern is how to break this fever off her with out to much drugs. Example I give her some paramol and in the next half hour, she was roasting hot. This fever is very tricky, it just keep popping up and getting worst, I hope to get her well and back to school. Please help me out with a cure!! Thanks!!!

Definitely take her to the hospital. Be sure to dress her in light clothing. The more clothes she has on, the higher her fever. Fill us in on what the doctor days! Praying for you!

I will be taking her to the hospital. This is my first child and I didn't know that, warm clothes could cost her higher fever because, she said she is cold but, she is also hot. I sponge her down a couple of times so that might be the problem. Thanks alot and keep us in prayer!!

You need to be concerned if her fever goes over 103 degrees. My friend is a nurse and he did tell me that even though you might be cold when you have a fever, you should not pile on clothes and blankets because they trap your body heat. You want to get rid of the heat from your body when you are running a fever. As long as your child is coherent and seems to rest peacefully, there isn't too much cause for concern. I always use a tylenol suspension liquid when my son is sick. I keep giving him the right dose about every 4 hours when his fever is bad. This should keep the fever down. You could also try letting her sit in a luke-warm bathtub for a few minutes and then dressing her in light cotton clothes. She might feel cold, but the luke-warm water will help cool her body down and the cotton clothes will help keep her cool and will absorb sweat as her fever breaks. I know how scary it is for your kid to get sick if you are a first-time mom. I freak out every time my son runs a fever, but you have to remember that kids are pretty tough. If your daughter's fever gets over 103 or if she is unresponsive or having trouble breathing, it is time to go to the emergency room.

how long has she had the fever for??? if it had been more than 3 days, i will suggest that you bring her to the hospital... fever is not something to play around with... usually, there is some kinds of infections in her body that cause the fever... good luck and i hope that your daughter will get well soon... please update us on her conditions...

I know you may have already left for the hospital by now but here's some safety tips once this kind of thing happens again: When your kid has fever wet a face towel with cold water and place it on top of her forehead at times wiping her face, legs and arms with a damped towel from the water from the faucet. If her feet is very cold put a warm compress on her feet. Like warm hot water and put it inside a bottle make sure you put something metal inside the bottle to prevent it from shattering. Like a spoon. then wrap it on a piece of cloth to prevent your child from being scalded just put it below her feet to keep her feet warm to get her temperature balanced. Paracetamol is given every 4 hours. Even if her fever went down on the day she had it you still have to continue giving her the paracetamol every 4 hours for the day stop only next day if the fever is really gone. If she is very cold give her something hot to take like soup or broth maybe. Let her drink plenty of water and juice as well. If her fever doesn't go down and she is not showing any progress of getting any better take her to the hospital. Mine is just a precautionary method you can use on times of need like this. I do hope your child gets better soon. Take care of her.

I took my soon the the Emergency room a few weeks ago because of a high fever. I gave him tylenol, and when we got there, 45 minutes later they gave him the same dosage of motrin. I asked them if this was ok, and if there would be any side effects, and they said no. The nurse told me that sometimes they just need to give them both because their fevers are so high, and it's the only thing to break them. I know this is hours later, but maybe keep it in mind for next time and ask her doctor about it. As long as she isn't showing any other symptons, like coughing or anything else, this might help break her fever.

Do you still talk to your mom? What about her fathers? I'm sure someone in your family has had to care for a fevered child before. They can shine some of the best light on this, considering their bloodline is your childs. If you ask those who are closest to you, they may know something that has worked for you when you were younger, dealing with the same...

When my son was running really high fevers from having ear infections my doctor told me to alternate between giving him tylenol and motrin that way he could take it every 4 hours to keep the fever down.

I had my son in to the hospital for a fever not too long ago. It was caused by an ear infection, but I took him in because it was 102 and rising after giving him motrin. By the time we got to the hospital it was 104.4 - He can not swallow tylenol - the taste gags him and he throws it up. They ended up giving him a tylenol supository and that brought it down. They said since they dont make supositories for children I could cut the tip of an adult one off and use that. they also made me strip him down clear to his diaper.

That is a high fever... You need to get her to the hospital so that the doctor can look after her. 102 is a bad sign... I hope your daughter will be fine.

over 102 is not that high for a child. First relaz take a deep breath and think. How are you taking her fever? bottom, armpit or mouth? The bottom is the most accurate under the arm you add a point in the mouth you subtract a point. Give her a bath room temp not cold. It sounds like she has a small viral infection that will work out. People tend to rush to the hospital you have already seen a doctor. Give he plenty of fluids. I was always told to give tylenol one dose and then to give motrin so it doesnt affect the delicate tummy. Most infections have to just work themselves out. Please let me know how she is feeling and if any of this helps. How old is she. Also you should never take a temp when they first get up wait about 20 minutes
