Share The Joy...

Banners... - Banners...

I’ve seen a lot of yards around town that have banners hanging out in front. “It’s a girl”, “It’s a boy”, “Congratulations”, “25th anniversary”, you name it. Ppl want to share their joy with everyone. I’ve only had one once out in the yard and my foster kids made it for me for my first Mother’s Day…I still have it tucked away. A couple years ago, a family that lived a couple towns over from us put a banner out in the yard saying “It’s a girl” to celebrate the birth of their new daughter. A woman drove by it and later came back and kidnapped the baby. It was several days before they caught her and then only b/c it was all over the news and she lived in the next town over. In our town there is a large sign that is in the parking lot of Auto Parts Shop that is on one of the main roads. You can pay a little fee and they will put up the letters for your sign. Some of ppl around here use those instead of the banners in the yards although I still see the banners around. I think I’d rather do the sign then the banner. Do you put banners up in your yard? Have you ever thought about the wrong person seeing it? Would you use a central sign over a banner? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Actually if I were to put one in my yard, my street is a turn around with only 5 residents including us and so that would make 4 neighbors, so it would be cheaper just to tell them if I want them to know what is going on.. That is awful about the baby being stolen though, I think if I did live on a main street, I would be careful what I did share..

We've never used these in our family. Although a couple of times we thought about putting up signs that say "The Party is Here", but then again, we didn't want to draw the wrong people. I guess I'm just a little conservative.

Isn't it sad how now days there is so much going on that people can't even celebrate their happiness? I do not do the banner thing but the central sign sounds great. I have often wondered too if the ones who put out the birth announcement of the newborn don't ever worry? There is so much information on the signs, name, size, birthdate ... on and on. I am so happy that the woman got her baby back that you told about.

I have never used one of those banners. It is sad that in today's society a Welcome Baby banner in a front yard is like an invitation to come steal someones baby. There is one hospital that has a big sign that they put the parents first names and the baby's first name, but they do not use last names. I think that is much better.

I remember hearing a story like that, about a baby being kidnapped by a woman who had lost her own baby and saw the sign hanging. It was when I was pregnant, and contributed to our decision not to put up a banner. I like the idea of putting up a sign somewhere else, such as at a business. That way you can share the joy without putting your family at risk. It is a shame that we have to worry about things like that. We can't even put up a sign to celebrate a birth in the family without attracting kidnappers.

I don't put banners I don;t like to call attention to myself for anything. I wouldn't even want anything published in a lottery that I was a winner, people will steal everything you have and then some.

Nope. My family and friends know what we would have celebrated or supported. We have never put signs or banners up to let the world know our business.

Wow, this sounds cool and admirable. I have really seen some banners in our town as well about their family member who won a contest, got a prize or award, etc. People share their joys to others hoping that the joy that they had will resonate and influence others as well. I haven't done anything like this before really. I'll try sometime.

No, I've never put banners up in my yard. People tend to put balloons on their mailboxes to help people find or at least see where the party is. It's hard to find some places where I live. So we put balloons out if we want people to stop by for some reason, yard sales, etc. How horrible that someone would use a congratulatory sign to find a baby to steal. So glad they found the baby, you never know what might have happened to her. No, I would not use banners or signs. In the country, people know your business before you do, no need.

I don't put banners up here. why? not only am I too short to reach high, even on a ladder, but I then have to clean it up later. I suppose if I was to put one up, it would be inviting people to babysit for me for a few hours a day! lol. On second thoughts, I don't need the bills from the psychologists that they would bring me. My girls are a little bit on the wild side sometimes.

I have never put a banner in my yard.. I did put blue ribbons on my mailbox when my son was born.. I never worried about someone kidnapping him when he was a baby, because he never got out of my sight.. He was my only one after being married for 13 years, so you can imagine that I never left him out of sight..

My middle name is paranoia.. not that I'm afraid, but if I see a banner like that, or even a stroller in the yard, etc, that's my first thought! Yep, I watch a lot of news.. I would advise anybody to use the billboard!
