Silence is golden” this quote has been a general saying for a long time and for so long people from all works of life have come to accept it as valid but while not trying to sound controversial I want to compare with another statement of law that says” silence means consent” .In light of the two statements what would you say if you are arrested for the very wrong reasons and you are told to remain silent would you keep silent thinking silence is golden even when in law it also means you consent to committing the offence for which you were wrongly accused of?

I think silence is golden is more about learning to listen better. When you are silent you are better able to listen to what is being said around you. You are better able to think about what you want to say. So, in keeping with your question, I think I would listen to what I was being charged with and listen to what the officials were saying. I would then proclaim my innocence and request a lawyer. The reason for the lawyer is that I don't trust the law to always do the right thing. ANYTHING can be twisted. So even if you are innocent you should have legal representation. Once the lawyer is requested it is best to remain silent and listen to what is going on around you. Take it all in. Process it and think about what you want to do or say before leaving that silence. Silence is golden because when you are silent you have the opportunity to listen and process so that what you say is of the most value.

No I have not been involved with anything to do with law. However I have spent my life learning everything I can about a little of everything. I love to learn. I have studied a little of this and a little of that but law and psychology are a couple of my favorite subjects. And though people might say that you can't learn anything from television, I beg to differ. I have learned a lot from watching Law and Order, CSI and similar shows. :)
