Pad Locked?

i wonder what the pad lock icon means in my cell phone. that icon usually appears when i am sending a message or making a call. i have a nokia 5300 express phone, my wife has a nokia 7270 and we both use sun cellular sim cards. both our phones displays the said icon during those process. does anyone clarifies the meaning of this and thus, give me a peace of mind. your responses are greatly appreciated...

I don't really have a nokia 5300 or a 7270 and I haven't really seen one so what I am going to tell you is just a guess.
I think it's a lot like when you go to your yahoo mail account here in the internet where the padlock means you are entering a secure page. I think when the padlock shows in your phone means your message or call is a private one and no one can access it.
Just a guess. Really not sure.
