I do not know why these gangs have to be so bad, it is like they get together and just cause trouble and are really horrible. It would not be so bad if they were in gangs but did good things for their communities instead. If I have to walk past a gang of youths I get so scared, I dare not look at them or anything just in case they see it as an excuse to say something to me, it is a horrible feeling.

Not all gangs are bad however all the gangs portrayed in the media are bad and have done this and that and caused loads of trouble etc etc. If the media showed the nicer side of gangs then prehaps people would change their opinion! I feel society is very much media led which is very sad really.

there has always been gangs, kids with nothing to do get into gangs and get in trouble, better parenting, more social activities etc can help, but often time the kids that join gangs are the kids that just don't fit in main stream.

The term "gangs" generally means a group of hoodlums who are up to no good and cause trouble, usually illegal. There's a difference between a group of friends who do good and a "gang". There's no place in this world for "gangs" but a group of youth who are friends and doing good for the world is a wholesome change that is welcomed by all, I'm sure.

Hi loveyoohbaby. I think that gangs are the substitute of family for many youngers. They want to have someone to care about them so get on gangs. But the real thing is that they only get in troubles and many times die. I really don't like this gangs. They make the life in the cities bad because you can't go home late night without be scared (sometimes during the day).

There have been a lot of studies on gangs and most conclude that gangs are a way that kids give structure to their lives and is a way to have a sort of family relationship. Many of those kids come from broken families or both parents work and don't pay attention to them. But the bottom line is that gangs provide them with some sort of love, self-esteem, support and companionship. They even have a discipline system and their own code of conduct. In short, most kids join gangs because they don't have families. That's what the studies say and I believe that they're probably right.
