This is amazing to me. This 37 year old man poked a shark in the eye to survive mauling. He lost most of his calf on his left leg, but hey he's alive. That's a good defense and I'm surprised no one has tried it in the past. If they had maybe they'd be either alive or less injured. This is on yahoo odd news. If you haven't read the story yet. I don't have 500 posts so I couldn't copy the link. Way too long to type out too.

I actually think that would be common knowledge for people who like to watch the discovery channel. Another trick would be to punch em real hard on the tip of the nose. But you know when people are in a threatening situation they tend to panic and can't think clearly, so maybe they could've known but it just didn't occur to them given the situation.

Yea that could be too. Sometimes when you're panicked you just don't think as quickly. Thanks for responding.

I also read that report in the paper today. It was also pretty impressive that a young mother went into the water to help drag him out. Brave woman!! I have swum among sharks many times and I'm very wary of them. They are a very beautiful killing machine!

Yea that was brave of her. I've never swam close to sharks before but I'd be very careful not to be too close if I could help it. The closest I've ever been to one is at the aquarium. lol Thanks for responding.

I have actually heard about going for the eyes to stop a shark attack more than once. I have also heard that punching it in the nose will sometime deter it from attacking. I would have to wonder, though, how many victims of a shark attack think to try this or how many victims have time to try it.

That could be true about punching it in the nose. It could definitely save your life if you have time to try. That's a good question to ask. It would be interesting to find the number of people that have been in a shark attack that tried something or didn't due to other things. Thanks for responding.
