Last week I told you about an 18 month old in my great-nephew's class who was said to have choked on a penny and wound up brain dead. Like I said before, they took him off life support and he was pronounced dead last Tuesday. I thought that this was the end of the story, until my sister, who is a teacher at the school called me. Apparently homicide investigators have gotten involved. They do not believe that this was an accident and have called for an autopsy. My sister said that the mother and her boyfriend are very young. They aren't sure whether the couple are married or not, but Koby's father was not the one watching him. They are investigating why the paramedics were not called immediately. They say that the child could have been choked to death. The mother had an older son whom authorities have taken away. Not only that, she recently gave birth to a little girl that she did not know she was pregnant with. The girl who is named innocence remains in ICU at this time. The funeral will be held on Thursday at 4:30p.m. My sister says that she can not go to the funeral because she hast to work, but doesn't think she would be able to go anyway. She says it would be much too hard for her. http://www.dailybreeze.com/ci_9181785?IADID=Search-www.dailybreeze.com-www.dailybreeze.com

How awful. To have a child choking accidentally is awful, 2 of my children were chokers as babies, we had to watch with everything they picked up and even food that they ate. I remember one of my boys who is 6 now, found a chocolate mini egg on the floor, he was only a toddler about the same age as Koby or a little younger. Before I could stop him it had gone in his mouth and down his throat, I could see him choking and I grabbed him and thumped his back as this normally did the trick, not this time. I could not shift it, he was going red, my hubby and other children were stood watching and I could see my hubby panicking, I thumped him again and still nothing and he was going blue. In the end I just grabbed him under his ribs and pulled in, still it did not shift, I did it again and as I did so I told my hubby to get an ambulance, but as I said it "whoosh" it flew out. I swear the fear that I felt was awful, as I tell this I feel my heart beating faster as I relive it, I really thought I was going to lose him. But it is even worse to think that it could not be an accident, really sad the poor little thing.

It is just so easy for them to grab something and pop it into their mouths. I just grab it from them, say thank you and toss it. It is cute when the babies get mad and show their bottom teeth and roar at you for taking it. But they get over it and are off to get into more mischief in no time. I think the thing that has got the authorities so curious is that he never once called the paramedics. As if he were waiting for the kid to die. It is very maddening.

That is what my sister said tonight. She said that she and the other teachers have went from being sad to being angry. At the most, it hast to be neglect. When children are that young, you have to watch them constantly. I know that it is not easy, but no one said that taking care of children was easy. I think that too many women also assume wrong that just because a person is an adult they will automatically know how to care for a child and give them as much love and attention that they would. Oh how wrong they are.
