People have different ways of studying. I kept the same technique from college to university. Before the exam, I do homework along the material taught in class and ask teacher for help when I am stuck somewhere. Then you have to do it another time to make sure everything is clear. When the exam is coming, all I do is redoing it for a last time and i am ready for the test. I am studyig in math field so you might study differently if you are in another program. But whatever the field you are in, if you start to read your chapters and do recommended exercises 2 days before your exam, you might not get a top notch grade. During my first year in university, I did loose the pace and studied very badly...procrastinating. It hapenned because i simply lost interest of those material, wasn't much motivated, or was a bit overconfident.

I had read the above response and I would like to say only one thing. In school days, we needn't plan what we had to do everyday, either it is decided by the teachers and school or by parents or siblings at home. But by the time we enter college, no one will help us plan our day. And we get entangled with so many other things like girls, sports, enjoying with friends, quarrels, love, hate, competition. It is us who should plan everything right from when to get up in the morning, when to sleep and all that in between. People who fail to plan and who never learn to, will go wherever life takes them, will not have proper path and waste a lot of time taking the wrong paths and coming back to the right one. Some just end up their lives in worst places. those who plan and have a disciplined life will get whatever they ever wanted, career, love, success, family, happiness and most importantly, they fulfill their goals and ambitions and be contented about how they lived.

Hi maddymahir. I'm currently in my last year of bachelor program. I find that i have the same situation as you are in right now when i started my foundation studies. I used to study weeks before exams during my school days. When i entered foundation year in the college, i find myself doing assignments and studying for exams only at the last minute. In my opinion, this is happening not due to change in our mentality but i guess during school days, it is less stress and also lesser workload. In college, we have to start learning to be more independent, we won't get any spoon fed right into our mouth as what the school teachers always do during our schooling years. Most of the time, information, instruction, directions are given to us on how to complete our school work. But in college, things starting to change. Lecturers won't care whether you will be listening to their lectures or not, they won't care so much whether you are present for the lectures and they also couldn't care less whether you have any interest in your studies or not. Not that we deserve such treatment but it is the time where we learn how to be more independent. College and university level are the years where we will have to learn how to be more independent, solve your own problems, making wise decisions for ourselves and etc. So because of the catching up that we have to do, since we are no more spoon fed by our teachers do help us finish our assignments or help us study for exams, we have to do things by ourselves. That makes our clock ticking faster than ever. And without you knowing it, exam is already around the corner and due dates for assignments are approaching. So because of us having to be busy with our assignments, we have no time to prepare for exams. The only thing we can do is to study the last minute where all our workload is lesser. Assignments are already handed up to the lecturers and what's left is the exams. I still do the same thing now. Studying at the last minute and hoping you'd retain most of what you studied in your brain for the next day's exam and hoping to pass with flying colors. slowly, you'll get used to it and good luck to you.

I also do it,but not due to change of mentality, but because i don't get much time to study nowadays,as I will have to work.I also prefer it because,if study for all the year round without giving a last minute revision then i also starts forgetting thing,so its better to study when the exams are knocking the doors.

yes definitely it's because of the mentality. i school our world is small and beautiful, we do not think much things are too small. i college we are grown our is still beautiful but with lots of additional things, which may be good or bad also we get a bit bored of routine and the studies. so we are always looking for something different which will relax us will give us some good feeling and definitely studying is not one of them. -- Vishal
